Hi, a neighbor claims his dad owns one - a 69 Mach 1 with an original 351C. I was under the impression that the 69's had a 2bbl and a 4bbl version of the Windsor, and that the Clevelands didn't appear till 1970. Any thoughts?? I'd love to hear em! - Thanks-Bob

First time I've been here and I've seen and heard this question many times. Intead of me laying the facts on the line, I'd rather give the authority to Kevin Marti of Marti AutoWorks. Here's his answer for ya:

1:13:23 PM One rebuttal coming up. We have been licensed by Ford Motor Company
with the entire database of production records of all 67-73 vehicles built at their North American
operations. The production records kept track of every engine installation for the 351, whether it was
shipped from the Windsor plant or the Cleveland plant. There were no 351 engines shipped from the
Cleveland plant for ANY of the 1969 model cars. People will protest. People will insist that their car does
have, but they cannot offer any proof (and having a Cleveland engine sitting in your 1969 car does not
constitute proof any more than me showing you a HiPo 289 sitting in my 1967 Cougar constitutes "proof"
they put HiPos in 1967 Cougars). Just check the date code on the engine block for anyone who claims to
have an original Cleveland in their 1969 car. The date code would have to precede the build date of the
car. I would like someone to show me one installation where the date code of the block is earlier than the
production date of the car.

a lot of 69's that motors replaced under warranty in the early 70's got the 351c because that was what ford was putting in the stangs at the time. one thing i would like to interject is that ford would sometimes send engines to places other than the assembly line that was building the car and i still think it is possible that some 351-c's wound up in 69's. there were also supposedly never any 351w-4v's installed in 70 stangs either, but there are documented one owner cars that have them. ford did some wierd shit back then so i never take anything anyone says as gospel even the great kevin marti. mopar did it too, suppsoedly they never made a pickup, a 4 door or a station wag with a hemi and there have been many documented cases of each

Of course anyone can claim anything, but Marti threw the gauntlet out there. Show him a '69 Mustang that has a cleveland with a date code preceding the body build date. He knows you're not going to find one. He has the records.

Those were '69 producton engines that was leftovers, so Ford put them in the earliest '70 351 4v cars, until they had "used up" all the leftover Windsors. Then they started putting in Clevelands.
