Ok guys. I've got a 69 Ford Mustang Mach One with an MSD ignition system. I have the 8584 distributor, 6a box, Blaster 2 coil, & 8.5 suppressor spark plug wires. Anyhow, I have been experiecing a no spark condition. Two days ago I called MSD directly and walked me through the spark test and determined that the MSD 6AL box was not working. So I replaced the box and the coil and still no spark. I wired everything according to the MSD wiring diagram. So the only thing now is the magnetic pick up. Has anyone replaced a magnetic pickup on their MSD Distributor? How do you deal with removing the wires that connect to the MSD harness? Do you cut them off and snake them through the distributor? Oh boy, this is very frustrating for me. I want this car to spark. Please let me know-any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

From what I know about your car you need all the help you can get (ment in the best possible way  ) did you try this? I think it'll help you figure out if its bad or not. Otherwise, I don't have much more to offer on this one.... sorry.

Hey guys. I found out that it was my magnetic pickup on my MSD distributor that went out and I found that out on Stangnet.com. My overcharging alternator blew out the coil, MSD 6AL box and the magnetic pickup coil. So I installed it today, and the car fired right up. I wrote a post on the AllFordMustangs.com website and you find it by clicking on the "No Spark" post and you'll see detailed instructions as to how I approached the situation. My user name there is Purple Horse.

Hey guys, the last time I metioned I got the car to spark. I drove the car last Friday and started well. But, when I did final installation of the battery, I accidentally installed it backwards and sparked at two places one at the starter solenoid and I think the alternator or starter. I am hoping that I didn't ruin the msd ignition system again. My dad drove the car today and started up well but noticed a bad smell in the cab-melting wire smell. When got home, he let car sit and cranked it and it cranks very slowly and makes a clicking noise near the msd box and starter solenoid. Do you guys think it might me the solenoid, high torque starter, or alternator or all three that went bad? How do I test each of these components to rule out the culprit? Also, because I crisscrossed the the battery terminals and sparked the battery could have ruined the battery and the other components? Please let me know asap. thanks.
