Yes, there is progress. It's unbelievably expensive, the budget continues to go up......they found some rust and other body work that shouldn't have been there. I got sold a bit of a "pig in a poke", for all you non-southern guys that means I got took a little bit.....

2-3 weeks left at the paint shop, then a few weeks with last minute stuff (axels, rear end, leaky power rack, etc) and then home.

Yes, I'm having to choose a color really soon, and I'm close to going with my first choice, the gun-metal grey. I know I will probably get flamed for resorting to the "Eleanor color", but Eleanor wasn't a '69, and i'm not going to do stripes like the Eleanor. I'm looking at the gun-metal grey, the black shaker scoop, black loevers and black spoiler. I think that scheme will look very cool, and very unlike any other '69.

I've waffled quite a bit on this. I was close to going with the Acapulco blue, with the black-out hood, that would look killer too, but there's other Mustangs like that. I could resort to "re-sale red"........:asshole: spank away.....

i had wanted to paint my car a charcoal or gunmetal color way back in 85, but i went with a super cheap resale red instead (krylon from a can, poor high school kid) but it looked it a lot better than 2 shades of green, gray and red primer and bondo spots.

charcoal and gunmetal grays were very hot back in the mid 80's but so were the wheels i have on my car too, though. :whistling:

somwhere along the way i decided that factory colors were the way to go because it dated the car less. nothing wrong at all with choosing a different color though. i've always thought a 69 fastback would look awesome painted that 71 mustang platinum color

Just for the record, Eleanor is not gunmetal, she is Pepper gray. True gunmetal has a bluish tint to it. This is basically what I had planned to do all along instead of stock now that I'll be slightly modified but like you, I did not want anyone to think that I am trying to be an Eleanor wanna be with my black accents. We started to mix around some paint and kept adding blue to it to adjust and before I knew it I ended up close to 2006 Ford Medium Wedgewood Metallic so that is what I chose instead.

By the way, don't feel bad, many cars have hidden flaws that you only find about at this stage of resto, that was a huge factor in my choosing to fix accident damage over buyinng a new and potentially unknown car. As the great Super Dave of Stangnet used to say, a little bondo and a little paint can make a Mustang what it ain't.

robbiedog,

Do you have anymore pics? If so, please post them.

I'm trying to decide between gun metal and Raven Black, but that gun metal looks killer.

I'll put a couple more up. Someone else asked about the kind of paint, and I verified it's PPG, not DuPont. I have the mix formula somewhere around here, or it might be at the paint shop still. I think the Graphite Metallic (Gunmetal Grey) looks awesome, I'm very happy with my decision. I was worried that it would look too Eleanorish, but it doesn't. Since my car looks just like a '69 Mustang, no one will confuse the issue. I didn't do any striping, I thought my louvers, spoilers and shaker would give enough of an offset to the paint, though I might decide to put some side stripes on at a later date. Look at the photos again, I'll post a few more.

I added three, and really none of them show the color very good. The photos make the color look very neutral, could be jade black, could be grey, could be almost anything......probably need to do some closeup shots in daylight with a flash.

Looks GREAT man, I might have to go that route over the Raven Black. I like it without stripes, although my wife thinks it needs some kind of striping, so I guess I'll need to decide on that next. Anymore pics you can post and a mix formula would be much appreciated. Keep us posted on your striping decision as well.

That color looks great, but believe me, the stripes look SO good with the 69's body lines, they made my car look completely different. And the 69 gt stripes work awesome with them (mine isn't a gt) since I didn't want my stripes to say gt 500. And any real mustang enthusiast will know a 69 can't be an eleanor clone, though it still looks great with no stripes.

Here's mine.

I agree, looks awesome, though I still liked the Black Jade. Stripes might look cool. I thought about '70 BOSS style stripes over the hood and down the sides, but not saying BOSS 302, maybe EVIL 347.

You're right, I saw a 70 boss that color and it looked great.

I'm a big fan of factory colors. I guess aI have looked at so many mustangs over the years that Mustangs with non-factory, non year colors look odd to me, kinda like putting Olds rally wheels on a chevy. It just doesn't look right to my eye. Nothing wrong with it, just looks funny to me.

I think I am going to go the gold color/black trim GT clone on my primered 69.

no new pics. Still waiting on the last details to be finished. Was supposed to have it by the 16th, but it's looking more like May 1.
