The restoration is finally complete after five years. But now I also realize they are never reallly done as there are things I will want to take care of down the road.
Before trailering it home I took it to a show that was being held in Livermore, California. Over 500 cars in attendance. For some strange reason it attracted alot of late 50s and older women. Not a good thing since I'm 40. I'm sure these women remember seeing Lime Gold coupes all over the place back when they were younger. Maybe its the wire wheel covers, white walls and vinyl top. Other than that it was a lot of puzzled Mustang and musclecar enthusiasts.
Heading to Las Vegas for the MCA National this Thursday. I'll take photos of all the '69 Mustangs I can find and post up once I return on Tuesday.

oh my god, that's funny. talk about a sleeper, only the grandma's were interested. i'm sure it may not that funny to you though after all the work you put into it. but can you imagine the look on some punks face when he get's his doors blown off by the grandma green mustang? PRICELESS.

No it got plenty of attention and compliments. It was just weird that so many older women would stop and take long time looking at it. With the SportsRoof most women in that age bracket, if they looked at it would ask about the color (Indian Fire).
It's probably more of a sleeper than a dog-dish hubcap CJ coupe, even if the one below didn't have the shaker.

i agree, i definitely wouldn't be expecting a CJ in a lime gold with black top grande with wire hubcaps. yeah, that blue car would definitely be more of a sleeper without the shaker and it would be a tough call as to which car would be more sleepy, the blue car could be mistaken for a 6 banger coupe. my neighbor down the street had a one that was identical to thhis car originally (since repainted white) and it had a 302 2v. there was a 69 coupe that i wanted to buy from a buddy of mine a couple years ago that was literally identical to this car except it was a 250 3 speed car. same color inside and out and the same dog dish caps as well, not as nice as the cj car but otherwise identical. at the time i didn't have the money to buy it even though he was going to sell it to me for 600 bucks.
i've always loved the blue cj car though, i have a blown up pic of it on my wall. i've also always wanted to see if those dog dish caps would fit on my chrysler cop car 15x7 rally wheels. if they would i might consider swapping them onto the cougar every now and then for a little late night street warrioring..hehehe

speaking of the cougar, i'm still debating what color to paint it when i get it. the original color is a baby blue or powder blue color with a white top. the white top will be staying but i've been considering painting it winter blue instead of baby blue. if it was a 57 t-bird i'd leave it baby blue for sure but i'm not so sure about the color on a 69 cougar. what do you think?

Winter Blue with a white top would look nice on a Cougar. Maybe a dual white pinstripe along the upper body line.

yeah, it did have the dual white pinstripe originally and i've considered that. i think though that the plan (for now, anyway) is to swap on a 70 hood, bumper and lights and add an eliminator hood scoop and front spolier, paint the 70 eliminator hood stripe on base/flattened clear and the scoop as well and do a white 69 eliminator stripe down the side but have it say cougar instead of eliminator. the reason for the black hood stripe and white side stripe is to tie the black interior in.
this car was kind of odd actually. the baby/powder blue, white vinyl top, black sport coupe upholstery (horizontal pleats instead of vertical) and the decor dash and door panels with the woodgrain (NOT what was used on the sport coupes with the V looking pleated detail), 351 2v, auto, ps, ac and MANUAL DRUM brakes. oh and no center console either. wierdest cougar i've ever seen. almost like the factory made it from a bunch of leftover parts.
i will be adding power disc brakes and a center console for sure. and my original C90X aluminum intake. i've got a bunch of goodies i was going to use on the stang but have decided to save for the cougar like a 68 coupe overhead console and rear defogger, tilt column and some other stuff. i just bought an NOS B&M branded speedostat cruise control setup for it too and i have an original 68/69 ford turn signal stalk with the cruise control button that i'll probably use instead of the one that came with the cruise setup.

I just found out today that Cheo69GT is also headed to MCA so you'll have some company. Car looks great man, kudo's. I see no fresh pics of the interior, did you adjust it before the show?
BTW B, funny you mention about the white and black combo stripes. My GT stripes were white to compliment the white top but I always had it down and it bothered me a bit. Now that the new top will be black all the details will be too.
Hey, how about grabber blue for the Cougar?
PS> that little 6 I posted the other day is a true sleeeeeeper!

no grabber blue, the baby/powder blue is an option since it was original but in general i don't like the pastel color category which i put the grabber blue in. what's funny the guy that owns it's brother is one of my old bosses and he's gay and absolutely hates the current color, which is the reason he sold the car to his brother in the first place. he bought it from the original owner.

Perhaps he would have been more comfortable in this:

Heck since it's a GT you might have even found a way to get comfortable with him.:tt1:

yeah it looks great on my mustang too. i'm thinking i want to go a little more subdued on the cougar. also, since it was originally light blue with a white top i'll stick to that theme.

Amazing work, man! It's amazing what a difference 178 cubic inches makes (-:
Until I go V8, I think I'm gonna track down some '69 Wire Hubcaps - that looks awesome!
Congrats again.

wow, swap on some GT wheels and switch the grande stripe with a GT stripe and that's exactly what my car looked like originally.
i remember when i worked at super shops many years ago a guy came in and bought a brand new set of center line wheels for his car and when we pulled it out of the shop he promptly opened the trunk and slapped on his stock hubcaps. you could hear the aluminum scratching as he did it. a very painful sound to us guys in the shop. i gotta say though that was the MOST radical sleeper style mod i've ever seen. it was a big block 70 nova with the full wheel covers, refrigerator white with a black bensch seat interior. of course it was originally a six cylinder car so there weren't any engine badges or anything. another thing that was cool about the car was the exhaust cutout, ONE exhaust cutout that ran to an almost full length pipe with another muffler. when just cruising around the car ran ona single exhaust but when he pulled the cable for the cutout it ran into true duals, killer car.

I don't disagree but I like it on that Grande I must say, of course that car is nice from any angle. I can't wait to hear how it makes out at MCA.
There was also a guy on Stangnet years ago who's 67 fastback was painted that color and it had a boss hood scoop and black out hood, all kinds of incorrect details but somehow it looked really right together, IMHO.

yeah the grande CJ is an awesome car and i wouldn't change a thing, still don't like the color in general though.
the car you peak of belonged to a guy who went by Bullitt.

hey b, if you want to, my dad has a 69 with a 70 front end and he would like to swap it back to a 69 front. is there any way we can maybe trade his 70 front end for your 69 front, or are you wanting to keep the 69 front. i do warn you, the panels might need a little work, but they are fairly decent. let me know if you want to trade.

I hated the Metallic Lime Gold..... 12+ years ago when I first bought my Mach 1.... but after repainting the rust free body... It's my favorite color.

i have to admit that it is quite a bit more appealling now that i've seen it in modern base/clear products but my previous experiences with it were of older chalky original acrylic enamels that all looked like crap. nice car BTW.
