Well i purchased a set of mustang projects sequential LEDs. It will stilll be a little while before i get them installed. But they plug directly into the existing socket. You have to wire in the sequential part though.

I opted to go ahead and get them because last time i looked they were still $164.95. So the price looked right at $109, fast shipping to. Whenever they are installed i do a product review maybe even a write up. But at the same time we will be pulling drive train out, cleaning engine and bay up. Painting it , installing new wiring. Installing dakota digital gauges etc. So theres lots to come in the next few months. Then my baby gets painted. Sheetmetal work should be done by the end of this week.

When you switch to LED taillights, you may need to swap out your flasher for a electronic flaser unit instead of a thermal. The LED's use less power and that can cause greif with the thermal flashers.

I have the LED taillights on my '69 Convertible. They work fine, are very bright and I love the sequential part. I also have the hood scoop with signals and the only down side is that the sequential part takes a bit of time and the front and hood scoop lights stay on for the duration.

It'd be nice if they made a set that wasn't sequential. I just took my car over to the shop to have the head liner put in and the wife said she could hardly see the stock brake lights in the sun. I would love to get the led's but would hate to give up the normal hood turn signal function. What would be kewl is to have the led be sequential only on braking and not on the turn signals.
I have that function on my goldwings through a aftermarket controller but in that case the turn signals doesn't share the brake light bulb.
Guess I'll have to glue mirrors in the tail lights to get more reflection...just kidding.

you can also get sequential LED's for the scoop mounted turn signals. check NPD or Claifornia mustang for them

Just for a further note, I can't exactly remember where I saw them (maybe Virginia clasic) recently, but there is a unit made that does sequential using a non LED bulb that can be configured to be just brake lights and not directionals too. It's a direct plug in also.
Also, the brightness of stock lights can be greatly enhanced by polishing the aged haze off your lenses and spraying the inside body silver, the difference will be quite noticable.

i know this is a very old thread, but.....
spraying the inside flat white is even more effective then painting it silver.
I installed a set several years ago and love them. I went non-sequential. They are very bright and show well. I have one row (5 lights) that have burned out but does not effect the lighting. They were around $120 from NPD. They are the larger boards - I think they are easier to position than the smaller ones I've seen. I'd recommend changing out your gaskets while in there. Here's a pic...

i got my kit from california mustangs for $109 back in 2005. non- sequential. love them. work just as well today as they did then. daily driver too. very easy install. you dont need a special LED flasher unless you replace the front turn signals with LED's too. i did everything LED so i had to get one. 20 bucks if i remember correctly.
