I was checking the autotrader and ran across a couple cars with ad content quoting that the 69 mach 1 are hot and prices are expected to go out sight. So the question in my mind is why? I know we all have a passion for the 69, but what in your opinion would supports that claim. It would be kewl if anyone had a link regarding this subject.

I think it's more of a supply vs. demand thing personally. For example, it's a no brainer that the Shelby's are at the top of the feeding chain followed probably by the Bosses as the most rare and desired muscle cars and as such certainly both are the most expensive, prices on these models have soared over the years to the point where average Joe (the backbone of the Mustang hobby) can no longer afford to play and as such the next logical assumption to make is that the very next model on the desired list can expect a to see a spike in value. Since GT's were plentiful in the begining and are back to the top of the pack in new cars the only logical choice would be the Mach 1. It was Mustangs first true entrance into the performance category, it knocked the GT right out of the offering and therfore has earned a special place.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find any particular subjects on the matter and all of this is just IMHO but I'd say it's pretty close to the fact.

Yea Pakrat I agree with you there completely and my 69 is a gt, but I had the impression that the 69 was posed to be the 'yahoo' of musle cars and don't know what facts their basing it on. I'm not complaining mind you but at the same time I wonder if it will run up the cost of owning one. Does anyone think that the 05 could be boosting the 69? Do retro's have a history of doing that?

IMHO its supply and demand, when I was looking for my car(20 yrs ago) they were a dime a dozen and no one wanted a car that got 6 miles to the gallon, now that the muscle car boom in in full stride, the higher the options on the car or the rarity, the demand.
Example: I paid 1500 for my "Project car" 20 yrs ago, quite a steal by todays standards
now you can`t buy a rolling shell virtually rust free(if you can find one) for under 6K then you`ll have another 20K to put into it if you you do most of your own work.
A `69 SCJ car sold for about 40K last I checked. (#2 condition)
not a bad investment for 1500$ and the prices are just going up from there.
Now if you had a `68 R code gt rag top..............

 Man, are you like sitting on my shoulder or something? Heh, I have to live with a plain jane, I only wish I could have a GT. Actually I think 69' is the year I would choose most to own a GT just becasue it was the last if nothing else.

Oh, BTW, yes you have. :P But considering I actually spell Richard with a silent "P" I find it hard to take offense.

Oh right, Texas. I knew there was another reason not to really like you, but I couldn't remember.

So how's the car, any updated pics since the paint was laid down? I am getting so anxious to see some fricken progress on my car. I know it's nothing compared to how long you have been waiting but I never once figured on any kind of long term project so it's just killing me that I'll miss even a day of driving weather much less a whole season.

I started this question because a car dealer made the bold statement 'buy now before the price go through the roof'. Well I finally got a reply from him and this is what he said 'we sold mach 1's 2 years ago for teens & low 20;s and now they are 30's

watch the Barrett Jackson auction on espn'

I went to Barretts and they had 2 fastback's sold one was an M code sportsroof for 37,800.00 and theother was a mach 1 S code 62,640.00.

I found his answer pretty interesting so I thought I'd pass it along.

Something else to consider is the relative rarity of Grande models in 1969. They could be had with any engine and transmission, although I'm sure the 428 w/4-speed option for that car is in the low double digits in number built.

i feel the same, i'm sure there are a few high dollar grandes out there....not in my driveway though. you want to see something scary, i clicked this link and i thought it was my car. mine is exactly the same, except for the shaker (yes its not origional) ans its a 351. but this is a good example of the above statement. although the seats are wrong in that car. my .02
