GUESS I'LL START.

US NAVY MACHINEST MATE(MM2)

MARRIED(MICHELLE) AND HAVE 1 DAUGHTER(TRINITY)

LIVE IN SAN DIEGO, CA

MY CAR IS MY 3ED STANG AND I ALSO HAVE A 99 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE(MICHELLES CAR)

1969 MUSTANG GRANDE, WIMBLDON WHITE WITH BLACK LUXURY INTERIOR. 351W DIXCO HOOD TACH, FACTORY REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER, 4 WHEEL BAER DISCS, AOD, 16X8TTII'S AND THIS

I RUN MY OWN MUSTANG SITE AND AM A MODERATOR FOR THIS FORUM.

I BELIEVE MY MUSTANG IS AN EXTENSION OF MYSELF AND I GET TO MAKE IT WHATEVER I WANT TO!
I PERFER PROTOURING/RESTOMOD TO CONCOURSE CARS ANY DAY, BUT HAVE GREAT RESPECT FOR ALL MUSTANGS AND CLASSICS!

I TYPE IN ALL CAPS CUZ IT FASTER, I'M NOT YELLING, REALLY

I STARTED OUT IN HIGHSCHOOL WHEN MY BROTHER GAVE ME HIS 67 600 COUPE WHEN HE WENT INTO THE NAVY. I MANAGED TO BLOW-UP THE 6 BANGER. IN WENT A C-4 AND A 302. I REBUILT THE REAR SUSPENSION, ADDED 5 LUG 9' AND SO ON AND SO ON.

A FEW YEARS LATER, MY BROTHER WAS GETTING OUT OF THE NAVY, I GAVE IT BACK.
THEN I GOT MY OWN 69 COUPE.IT ALSO WAS A 6 BANGER CAR, ALL DRUM AND RUSTED BAD! SO HERE I WENT AGAIN, IN WENT A C-4 AND THIS TIME A 351W. I LOVED THAT CAR, IT TOOK ME THROUGH GRADUATION AND BEYOND.
THEN I WENT INTO THE NAVY. BUT I HAD NO LITTLE BRO TO PASS MY STANG TO. SO IT SAT THERE IN DEEP EAST TEXAS ROTTING FOR 3 YEARS. I FINALLY GOT A PLACE HERE IN SAN DIEGO AND HAD IT SHIPPED OUT.

WELL BY THAT TIME THE RUST HAD TAKEN OVER! I STRIPPED IT AND SENT IT TO SEE THE CRUSHER(SNIFF SNIFF)
I WAS THEN MUSTANGLESS! A YEAR LATER, I WAS SERFING E-BAY AND BAM! A 69 GRANDE WITH A 351W IN REALLY GREAT CONDITION. I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THE LOCATION, A FEW MILES AWAY! I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT AND WENT TO SEE IT, PERFECT, EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!SO WE MADE THE DEAL AND 4 GRAND LATER I HAD A STANG AGAIN.

THIS TIME IT WAS A LITTLE DIFFERENT, I HAD TO HAVE IT TO GO TO WORK. I ADDED DISCS ON ALL 4 REBUILT THE SUSPENSION FRONT AND BACK FIXED ALL THE LITTLE STUFF ON THE INTERIOR ADDED A ROAD DEAMON AND WIEND STEALTH. NOW I HAVE A REALLY NICE DAILY DRIVER.
WELL.............AS OF OCTOBER, I GOT MY FIRST $4000 DOLLAR "CAR IMPROVEMENT LOAN" I HAVE EVERYTHING I NEED TO MAKE IT HANDLE AND DRIVE LIKE I WANT.
RACK AND PINION BAER BRAKES, AOD SHELBY FRONT SUSPENSION DROP AND A FEW OTHER THINGS.
I'M CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE FRONT BRAKES TO GET HERE. THEN A FEW MORE SMALL THINGS AND I'M GOING OTO RIP INTO IT. I'M GIVING MYSELF 3 WEEKS. I'LL TAKE PLENTY OF PICS AND ASK PLENTY OF QUESTIONS TO KEEP YOU GUYS ON YOUR TOES!
i'll have better pics later, but for now...................hover and click.its fun

WoW great post. Let me see if i can do half that good.

Single and ready to... yeh we know the rest.

Currently working a small security guard job. (going to college in a few months) I have to get my car painted first right? So im going to work a little while longer and get it painted.

I live in pollock, louisiana (where? yeh exactly)

This is my first car. A 1969 coupe, paid $3500 for it 2 years ago. Came with the 351 cleveland :) and c-4 tranny. I didnt know much about mustangs when i got it. Just knew i wanted a 351. Car didnt have decent seats in it. So that was one of the first things i replaced. Got the car back from texas which was a 600+ mile trip one way. My dad drove the car home in 100 degree heat!! We had walkie talkies, i followed him in the family explorer with the a/c running. I also rubbed it in alot... lol cruel yes, but all in fun.

List of things replaced:

Seats, New dash pad, Heater redone, Torq thrust II's added, Front power disc brakes, Weatherstripping, Changed over to bolt in (70 style) glass, Just recently changed to power windows, Added deluxe humphugger console, New bumpers, The right alternator (instead of the GM that was on there??), New coils (1" drop coils soon to be installed) , new leafs in the rear, tranny rebuilt, Also put in a new radiator for a 390 incase i want to add a/c later on, and headers (hooker comp). Brand new flaming river steering box (manual) soon to be added. Cant afford that rack and pinion like some people.. lol

Other future mods: New cowl induction 3" hood coming soon. Racing mirrors to be put back on before paint job. Paint job of course and trunk rust repair done at the same time. Total suspension rebuild. Engine to be pulled. Engine bay to be detailed and all the supspension parts to be put on along with the steering box. Headers just get in the way. Other future mods include aussie 2v heads (currently have sluggish 351m! heads yeh they suck) and a 9" rear with a 3.50 posi chunk. Thats after all the beauty mods are done. Since i dont know when i will be able to do these once i start college.

Almost left out another expensive upgrade, kenwood exceleon cd/mp3 cd player. Its nice being able to store oh 175 of your favorite songs on one cd. And 2 kenwood excelon 6x9's. Also have 2 punch 12's and a 760 w pioneer amp. Soon to be selling those to a friend, i just like my hearing too much.

Oh and i run a website. You may have heard of it: www.1969stang.com

Look forward to hearing about your mustang!

I have a 69' coupe that I bought from the original family for $1,500. (I almost felt bad).--- The car still had the plastic headlight adjuster rings in the original bag sitting in the trunk. --- Anyway, it had the original bench front seat, white wall tires ect. So far, I have totally rebuilt the engine, did a T-5 conversion, ripped out the front bench and put 85 SVO seats in it. Installed front discs / calipers (4 piston) from a mid 60's t-bird, instaled an 8.8 rear with 3.73's and discs from a late model mustang..hummm what else...oh yeah, custom roll cage, 18x9 black bullitt wheels... and other small stuff. I hope to run in "Open track" events with the Nor-Cal Shelby club sometime when it's done...

I like the site, I hope it gets more traffic as it goes.....

Hi Guys,

As you can tell I'm an Aussie with an incurable passion for 69s...er um 1969 Mustangs....

My ride has been in resto for 6 years now; the last two of which have been with me.......the PO really left me some issues to work through

It's a Mach 1 351W 4V with a close ratio 4 speed toploader and I should have the first phase finished by Easter....the first phase means this resto.....but I have other plans...you know the drill.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

I'll try and do as good as the above posts:::

I spent 20+ years in the Army, retired now :). I still work for Uncle Sam, Trinity,, thank you for your service <S> (salute).

I own a 1969 Mustang GT, originally an east coast car, I bought it in 2000. I had a lot of the original metal replaced, I bought it mainly because of the drive train; rebuilt engine, trans, diffs, brakes, etc... most of the work was done by the "House of Cobras" (they have a specialty website) all it needed was body work. I researched it and found that the original owner was right when he posted it as a GT, this is one of 475 Raven Black Mustangs offered in 69; Who knows how many Raven 69 GTs were produced..Anyway, this is a driver, not a show car!, I drive it to the golf courses in Tucson as much as I can. I drive this thing a lot, probably more than the insurance companies would like, but like I said, it is a driver. I have a 429 block sitting in my garage that will eventualy make it into a 69 Mustang or 32 Ford, I'm still decinding on this. I hope this site takes off big, the 69 Mustang will continue to be a "big" seller, it deserves a website of its own....

DragPack if you're asking where I live, Toronto is a small town on the Ohio River due west of Pittsburgh, Pa and about 50 miles south of Youngstown. I'm assuming the Mahoning Valley show you refer to is around Youngstown somewhere but I am not familiar with it. What is or where is "QS&L"? My car should be back home from the restoration shop the first part of May. I may make it to a few shows but since the car has 4:30 gears and I don't as yet own a trailer I'm not sure how far from home I will take it. I'm going to the Columbus Swap meet tomorrow and will be stopping at Signature Auto to check out the progress. Thanks for the reply.

hi my name is Bryan and i'm an addict. it all started for me in 1984 with the purchase of my first car a 1969 mustang gt coupe and it's been downhill ever since. i am registered with mustangers anonymous and am currently on the 12 step program and the patch. my car (the same 69 gt i've had for 20 years) is still in the resto stage, has been in some form or another since i bought it, i hope to actually have paint on it sometime in the next year. it was originally lime gold with black vinyl top and ivy gold standard interior, 351-4v, fmx automatic, ps, pdb, ac, console, visibility group, tinted windows, am/fm radio, passenger side clock, and remote driver side mirror. when it's done it will be acapulco blue with black top and blackout hood, black deluxe interior, 351 fuel injected long rod roller motor, aod trans, power rack and pinion, 4-wheel disc brake lincoln versailles rear. it will have numerous suspension mods, many of which trinty's is doing to his car. it will have power windows that use the factory window cranks and power locks, power trunk release, rear window defogger, tilt column, cruise control, power mirrors and the front buckets are from an 86 gt that will be recovered in the 69 deluxe pattern. it's going to have the 69-70 shelby decklid and sidescoops and the wheels will be 69 gt wheels in 15x7 & 15x8 or maybe 15x8 all the way around. i have all kinds of other little things planned for it too, but other than the shelby pieces it will look just like a concourse resto, but i'll be driving the hell out of it, no trailer queens for me. my name is Bryan and i'm an addict

My Name's Jared, I live in West Jordan, Utah (It's a suburb of Salt Lake City) I'm 26 Married with two boys, and I've owned my Pony since about 1995, when I inherited from My older brother. Origianlly came with a L6 250, 3 speed tranny, Wimbeldon White, with blue interior. Now it's primer gray and taken apart in my Garage. The 250 Blew the summer of 2000 and it's sat at my parents house until recently I was able to save up some cash and purchase a 302 to rebuild. I Finally was able to tear into the 250 last week and find the cause of the trouble, it seems the Cam broke right below the #5 piston, and the section about 3 inches long got knocked around in side the block until it knock two holes on either side of the block, one almost perferctly round. Never really heard of that happening.
My love of cars, especially Mustangs, has been taught to me by my father, who when he was about my age was a mechanic and gave it up to pursue other interests, but still loves to get his hands dirty. Me and him have had many a memorable expeirences in the years we've had this car. He's taugh me everything I know about auto mechanics, and I hope one day to have this fixed up and restored and be able to pass it along to my sons. My oldest which is 3 years-old, when you ask him "Who's car is that" (Pointing to the mustang) His only reply is "It's Mine!" He loves to sit in the drivers seat and pretend he's driving. He's still got 13 more years before that's even possible.

Here's a link to my site, it's not much, I do have more Pix but my camera is malfunction and I'm not able to D/L them.
When I get that fixed I'll update it.

My name is Rickard, I live in Sweden and work as an Application Engineer at a company suppling telecom companies with components such as connectors and cables.
I have 1969 Mach1 and I bought it in -93. I'm doing work on it every winter and enjoys it in the summer time when I take it to car meetings or just takes it out for a ride on a sunny warm day.
Found this forum by accident and I find it to be great, that's why I just registerd myself! Here in Sweden we a very nice club called Classic Mustang Club Sweden, http://www.mustangclubsweden.com/
It has a forum just like this one but of course it's in swedish, I gues none of you will get enything out of it :)
I will for sure put posts here in the future and who knows, maybe I can even help some of you guys with some helpful hints.
By the way, for those of you who knows nothing about Sweden. Interest for classic american cars is enormous here! There are lots of car meetings trough out the summer time. The biggest one is called Power Big Meet, take a look here: http://www.bigmeet.com/
About a couple of hundred mustangs alone and total around 10000 cars during the weekend.
Best regards

Hey I'm Kyle, I'm a 20 year old tech student at wyotech's chassis fab and high performance program and about to graduate and go back to sunny martinez ca.

I own a 1970 coupe which i have been working on since I was about 14 and have done more stuff to it than i would like to remember. I pretty much have done a frame off restoration minus the fact its a unibody and it has no frame. But since it was a teenagers first car you can imagine the amount of damge that has been inflicted to it. SO I am at it again starting from square one but going in with some fresh new ideas on how to restomod it.

Once i am done in wyoming i am going back to cali where I have a few job offers at respected street rod shops and plan to go at it from there. Other than that i guess I am just a Stang Junkie like every other stang owner I have met.

Pics of the stang Can't figure out how to post them

Nice to meet you all. I am new here this is probably only my 5th time visiting this site. I'll begin when i was searching for my car at age 14. I had gotten my licesene and started working with my neighbor to get enough for a car. I later worked up 2000 dollars and found out my other neighbor had 3 stangs 2 of which were for sale and he would keep the one that wasnt sold. So i bought the 69 stang and now am working on the restoration process. My dad would have helped but i rather do it on my own and he is Chevrolet guy and I am a ford guy so we had our differences.

Hello All,

I live in Southern California, in a city called Highland, my name is Paul, I'm married with 2 kids. I work as a Code Enforcement Officer. The reason I'm here is that I own a 1969 sportsroof, that resembles a Mach. She has a 351 W, w/AOD, and presently awaiting installation of EDELBROCK Performer series, Cam, heads, intake and carb. The reason it's pending is cause I'm searching for headers and am not sure which ones to get.

I've had the car 6 years now, she's rust free and originally a Calif. car. She ain't the prettiest Stang out there but she isn't the ugliest. I'm kinda going for the restomod thing, going original costs way too much money. My first car was 1967 Mustang with a 302 v8, largest pile of crap I've ever owned. I was 18 at the time in didn't know a thing about cars. That car never ran right, drained my savings, but it was my first love, so what can I say.

Anyhow, I'll be here for much needed advise, hope you guys can help as I know some things about cars, but not the big stuff, all I know is that I love early model Stangs, always have, always will. My other car, my daily driver is a 99 Camaro SS, so don't hate me for that.

Anyways, I've rambled on, I apologize - Hello!

maybe post a question on headers for your 69 in the tech area and i'll fill ya in on what i know.

btw, how do you like the aod? what tv set-up do you have for it??

thanks for stopping by!

ps, my last car was a 01 trans-am, 1 of only 93 painted in blue-green camelion. only one with 6 speed and black leather. so you won't get any hate from me  man i was stupid  for getting rid of that car, but my daughter needed more room and it was time to up-size.

Thanks Trinitys,

Yup, Highland is next to San Bernardino, a stop for the infamous Route 66 car show.

I like the AOD, I lost some torque off the line, but top end is great. At 70-80mph, she cruises and doesn't drink much juice. I'll probable get the tranny adjusted after the rebuild and Edelbrock stuff is installed.

I'm not much of a mechanic either, usually I just pay to have things done on my cars. This vehicle is helping me learn much more.

Hi all-

I actually just stopped in to get a tech question answered, but what the hey.

I've got two Mustangs, an unrestored original '66 notchback with 48k actual miles (my baby, since I'm single) and a '70 fastback that I'm building into a fully prepared autocross race car. I've got a web site for the buildup if anyone is interested in how to spend a lot of money on a car that can't be driven on the street anymore. :D

By trade, I'm a test engineer for a vehicle OEM.

Anyway, thanks for your minute and, if you've got a Boss 429, check out my other post and let me know if you can answer my question.

Hi

Jason Fecteau, live in Pedricktown NJ, 24, have a 1 1/2 yr old son Bradley

Have a 69 Mach1 Mustang with a 351C, 4spd, 3.55 locker. She's Burgandy Red with Magnum 500's. I've just finished a 408C stroker motor with an est 450 hp that I'm dropping in her this weekend. She's been off the road for about a year so I can't wait to take her for a spin.

I had another 69 Mach that I bought when I was 15 but last year I gave that car to my brother who had just turned 17. It's a Standard 351 2V with minor upgrades, auto (C-4), that is about the same color as mine.

Also have an 03 F-150 Supercab 4x4, FX4.

:)

Forgot to mention I'm a member of the NJ Chapter of Mustanglife. I have a gallery over at there site. http://ml.truckmoxie.com/mygallery.ten?id=3754 Please take a look.

Hello I'm Steve. I officially joined about four days ago but didn't post anything. My father owns a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I that has been modified through out. It has a 98 Plymouth Prowler Purple Pearl paint job with 20 percent added pearl so when it hits the sunlight the pearl stands out. I hope to get good information out of this forum. Ever since we purchased this car, it has been a total nightmare and we're still not finished with it. We have invested huge amounts of money into it and it still looks like a project car. Every shop we turned to claiming they did excellent high performance work and modification have lied to us(my father and me). All of the parts that we put in don't work for example, the carburetor that was put in when the engine was built by John's Mustangs and Classics in San Diego, CA didn't hold up we ended up rebuilding it three times and scrapped it. So we went to TPC Racing in Santee, CA and sold us a line that we needed to replace the carb and get a Holley Double Pumper and get a new fuel pump and line installed and we did that came up with problems there as well. First when he installed the new fuel hard line he tore up the inner fender well sheet metal because couldn't make a 90 degree bend with the hard line instead he could have used the the braided line with a 90 degree fitting. My father was very upset that day. Finally the carburetor ended as a total disaster. The carb only ran for good for a week and a half. Anyway, that was just one of the many problems we've had with restoration project.

Hello everyone, I have a 1969 mach 1. It has a 351 and a 4spd toploader tranny. It ran pretty good for about two years. Now i have a 302 to run temporarily as I start a buildup on a 393. I haven't done too much to the car. I've had too much fun with it to start restoring it. Its a 20/20 car right now. I bought a different project to work on in the mean time. Great to see somewhere that sole supports my favorite era of mustangs. Pictures will have to come later.

Guess I should introduce myself. My name is Bob and I'm a Mustang fanatic. Have been since about 14. I own a 1970 fastback that I've had for ten years. When I got it, it had a 302. I swapped that for a 351 and later a 460. I'm now going to do a 351 stroked to 427 and a manual tranny. Just haven't decided which one. I don't claim to be the most knowledgable person about Mustangs, but I think I can help a little. Eric(Trinitys) showed me the site. Looks like it should be fun.

Wow ten years and all those engine swaps. I like the 427 stroker idea. Maybe one day down the road i'll do something similiar, i look forward to hearing more about it when you get started. On this site it doesn't matter your knowledge on mustangs, we are all here to learn and get help or give help. I rely on Eric to do most of the technical help. I'll admit i do not have awhole lot of mustang knowledge. It's a learning process every single time i do something on the car. I'm just lucky to have people to help me who do know what they are doing heh heh.

Glad to join this site. My name is Max and I've been in the Mustang hobby much to long to count the years. I've strayed outside the Blue Oval but seem to wander back in the fold. I've even strayed 'inside the Blue Oval'...that is, going to the newer dohc Cobras, but my heart beats so much faster and livelier with the early stangs. I've been through a few...restoring, admiring, driving them and as of now, two keep me satisfied. They are my '69 meadowlark Mach I 351 M code with A/C, Auto, etc. My other is an early '67 GT 350, #0029. Both are in restored condition, but they're not prima donnas....I live in the country and both cars get driven....the Mach I is my sunny day driver. The '67 gets its guts wrenched out on the farm to market roads.
Take care,
Max

Just found the site and just found a car.....I will have tons of questions along the way.

My name is Tom, I'm 23, I live in Cleveland,Ohio.

Things I have:
94 Ranger (Daily driver)
95 Mitsu Eclipse (Modified)

and last night I picked up an amazing Mustang. I'm assuming it's a 1969 due to the headlights. The owner isn't sure and didn't car. It's a Florida car, up in Cleveland for 5 years at which time it was stored in a barn under a cover.

Very solid, but it had an engine fire on it's journey up here.

But personally I'd rather deal with engine fire repairs then Cleveland salt damage.

So anyways, it's nice to join and I plan on being a Mustanger.
While I don't have any older Mustang expiriance I do have plenty of fox body expiriance over the years.

My friends latest project that we banged out over the winter was a 91 Nissan 240sx with a supercharged 5.0 in it. Stock tires and motor running 13.10s burning tires......Very fun street car.

See you guys around the forums.

Know of any swapmeets or anything like that coming up?

I guess I'm the newest member here. I own a '69 fastback, it was my very first car, and I don't ever plan on selling it. It went through a lot of different combinations in the 17 years that I've owned it. Right now I'm trying to fix the "sins of my youth" and put an A/C system back in it. I tore out the original way back and threw it away when I decided to make it a "race car"! Oh well, a little older, a tiny bit wiser. Also building a 408W stroker for it, and have a Lentech AOD with a 'brake waiting to go in behind it. Still like to race, just with the A/C on now!

Hello to all. I just had to join and say thanks to Trinity and the wealth if info on his site. The ride currently is a 1969 convertible 302/2bbl w/C4 triple black in color. All work done including paint I did myself.

The body and interior are in good shape. The drivetrain soon (next month) will upgraded to a 351W/AOD/ 3.90 rear. The idea is to have the body and interior look pretty much stock and have the thing go like a bat.

The engine is going to be done by Ford Cobra Engines.
Transmission and rear end by Revs.
The swap itself is going to be done by Pure Vision design.

As soon as I figure out how to post a picture along w/this text I will. Any help would be appreiciated.

I bought my 69 coupe for $80 back in 1986 completed restoration about 1991. It was wrecked in the front end and had a seized motor. With the help of friends and family I slowly put it back together. I totally disassembled and reassembled the car replacing any and all metal/parts as necessary. The car was sitting in a chicken coupe for 10 years after being wreck and had a lot of metal damage.
351W 2-barrel
FMX transmission
Power Steering
Interior light group
Floor console
Sport mirrors
Hood scoop, front spoiler
69 Mach I interior (red trim highbacks and carpet inserts)
125,000 Miles - 20K+ since restoration
Kenwood AM/FM Cassette, 4 X Infiniti Kappa Speakers, 250 Watt Alpine amp, Alpine Alarm
69 GT steel wheels
Oxford White Paint with a BOSS style C - stripehttp://daxz.com/d/mustang/stang2.jpg
I also have a 86 GT and had another 69 coupe (250-3speed) and a 79 Turbo 4speed.

this picture is weekend I got it home.
redid: floors, wheel wells, quarters, rear valance, the entire interior except for dash and headliner (new dash pad), frame in front of motor mounts, radiator brakets, torque boxes, put on another car's hood/fenders/buckets. pushed shock towers apart and put in monte carlo bar and new 1 piece tower brace, new a-arms, motor had a piston in sideways - got it out and honed it and piston walls were fine :), rebuilt tranny & brakes The vinyl top was fine after i got a couple of small holes patched and it dyed.

Maybe it would have been easier to say what was original when I got it :)

By the way the auction I bought it had about 50 mustangs (all years) and most went for around 50-500 dollars (one 66 K-code conv. went for ~5K). Wish I had more money then.

Many thanks Trinity for posting the pic's for me. I went for a ride last night as it was nice and cool outside, car is running great, and I start think to myself that I just might be a fool to pull the whole drivetrain out.

By the time I got back home I'm thinking if I'm pulling it out anyway why not go w/the 5 speed instead of the AOD?

Here's how it breaks down,
-AOD incuding coverter and conversion kit 2000.00
-5 speed(from C4) conversion including pedals 3000.00

So goes this hobby.....lol

Any thoughts?

Hi! Looks like I'm the "new guy on the block"...at least for now. But I'm not a newbie to the world of Mustang. I first fell in love with 'em back in April of '64. I was 6-1/2 at the time. My Dad brought me home a scale model he got from the local dealer and, as they say, the rest is history.

I'm a married man, with a wife that loves cars, racing and Mustangs almost as much as I do (I consider myself quite lucky! :D ). I have two daughters and grandchildren and expect that my Mach will eventually be inheirited by my grandson. I hope he'll be able to afford gas for it by then!

We live in Logansport, IN ('bout an hour north of Indy) surrounded by corn and soybean fields. Decent vintage iron is few and far between around here, and most nice examples spend most of their lives in garages.

I've been turning wrenches for a living for about 29 years now, and have been employed at an agri/industrial equipment dealer for the last 15 years, the last year of which I've returned to the Service Manager position (but not by choice... ....I'd much rather be turning the wrenches)

I once owned a '73 Mach I, which I had been kicking myself for trading away, and currently have '95 V6 coupe. I just recently acquired a '70 Mach I...a rolling shell, actually...as a project car and have all kinds of ideas for it. I'm not a "purist" by any stretch so when I'm done it won't be stock for certain. If I have my way (and I will... :) ..) it'll look very much like a '69 Boss 302, only better. Well, it does in my dreams anyway...

Welcome to the site mymach! Great choice for a project. I'm not a purist either and i believe that alot of thing should be done different to these classics. Especially if all thats really left of the original car is the body. What good would it be to put it back to original if the parts are just coming from other cars? But anywho we look forward to seeing your project and hearing from you. Be prepared to spend 3x the amount that you originally intended on spending. Good luck with her.

welcome mymach, you just can't beat a 69 or 70 fastback especially if done to look like a boss 302. i have done all the 69 boss 302 blackout stuff to my acapulco blue 69 gt coupe. there is just something about about that shade of blue and flat black together that just turns me on. anyway, we'd all love to see pics of you car as soon as you get a chance to post some. even if it is just a bare shell.

I own a 69 mustang(fb), m code. Original raven Blk, DLX interior,rim-blow,4-spd,PS/PB,fold down,3.25 traction-loc,shaker. the car was found in racine,WI for $4500. It was 80% complete. The 20% being no engine. I bought the car in 99, and I'm probably the 3-6 owner. The car is currently disassembled. I do have front suspension ,PS and rear axle on it. All these parts are redone originals.I have had my car in 4 differant body shops and I'm still not done w/ body work. In milwaukee most shops charge a high price for classics. They really only want to do insurance work. As of today I still don't have my wheel wells & quarters done the way I like. I got screwed. but o'well I only own Ford products. I have a 99' f-250 & 00' grand marquis-my marauder wanna-be & my lady has a 03' ford focus. I see 06-early 07 as done w/ my mustang.

Well, I recognize a few familiar faces around here.

For those that don't know me from the VMF, I have 3 '69 Mustangs (2 coupes, 1 sportsroof) and a '66 coupe.

The '66 coupe is my daily driver, every day, all year long.

The sportsroof is undergoing an extensive rebuild/modification process. We're in the process of building a 408 roller stroker from a late model 351w Lightning block, which should be completed by the end of next week. It'll be backed by a Dark Horse Performance TKO-600 5 speed and a 3.50 31 spline 9" traction-lok. The car is already sporting electric windows, keyless entry, Mustang Project sequential LED tail lights, and '93 Mustang GT seats with electric Lumbar supports. The car is "affectionately known" in Northern California as Scary. It got it's name originally, because that was the only way to describe the driving experience ... no brakes, little steering, no lights, no gauges, and leaked every kind of fluid that was in it, including gasoline. The idea is to keep the car Scary, but now because of the torque it will posses :)

I've been working on small block Fords for about about 24 years. My first one was my '68 Cougar which I bought to flip for a quick profit, back in 1980. The car was so much fun to drive, I ended up keeping it and selling my '72 Charger big block car instead.

Any way, I'll hang out and lend some advice where I can, and ask advice where I need it.

Ok i had my mind set on a red metallic but paint and body guy still wants me to take a look at this charcoal grey metallic he has from house of kolor. I seen a corvette hood he had just painted with the same type but it was a blue and i guess it has some nice pearl in it because it shifted as i walked around. And i must admit it changed my mind about it. So i told him to go ahead and shoot a test panel of the grey and i'll let him know.

Hey Everyone.

I'm a 31 year old commercial pilot living here in Phoenix. I live with my girlfriend and 2 dogs -Solo and Piper. I grew up around the 69 Mustang. My dad has a pristine green fastback with a 351C and he's the original owner of it. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to drive it when I was in High School/growing up. But, for some reason I never had the balls to do so. I guess I could never have lived with myself if I wrecked it. About 20 years ago my parents purchased a Jade Green (it's now red) 69 convertible which I currently own. I'm here to learn all I can about restoring this car and maybe even meet some friends while I'm at it.

I visited here once in the past, and then put my energies into building my car. I'm not finished yet(is any car ever finished?), but I have just a few more major items to do to the car.
A bit about the project.......
I've gone through many phases of car / collector eras......I'm nearly 50....
I've had the Shelby's, Panteras, Bosses etc, but actually burned out on the hobby about 10 years ago when everyone was concerned about how much money their car was worth rather than driving/racing/enjoying them. I bailed out, sold everything and landed in some newer exotic cars.....BMW M5, Porsche 996TT, C6 Vette.

Fast forward to 2003.....wanted to get back into the hobby. Set out to buy back one of my old cars, but the current owners would have nothing to do with it.
http://www.marblesmotors.com/ShelbyGT3501969.htm
http://www.marblesmotors.com/CougarEliminator1970.htm

Decided then and there that 1969 was far and away my favorite style of Mustang and set out to build my ultimate driving machine (no pun intended).

Goals: Decent paint (didn't care to be perfect), Fast drivetrain, Overdrive transmission, Big brakes, taut suspension, safe....well as safe as a 1969 can be. I started with a plain-jane convertible that was painted in the color combination that I wanted. I got really lucky here as the paint is really nice, and how often are you going to be able to find the color you want????? Found an Acapulco Blue / White convertible w/ 351-2v original. I wasn't concerned about the collectibility as far as options go etc, because I was going to change it around anyway. The car was originally an automatic with drum brakes and AM radio.....that was it....not even a power top.

You can follow along on the website for where it is today, but here is a brief rundown. http://www.marblesmotors.com/Mustang1969-1.htm
408 c.i. Keith Craft windsor
444 ft lb torque at rear wheels
381 hp at rear wheels
Tremec TKO 5 speed
3.50 Traction-lok 9" rear
18 x 9 Boyd Coddington wheels with 285/35/18 tires - rear
18 x 8 wheels with 245/40/18 tires - front
Baer Eradi-speed 2 piece 13" discs, front and rear
Stam-bar front and rear adjustable sway bars
Holley Blue electric fuel pump
Edelbrock RPM head and intake
Barry Grant Demon carburetor
Hydraulic roller cam
Ford Powertrain headers
Spin tech mufflers
5 leaf mid-eye rear springs
Front contour coils
Front a-arms dropped 1" & cut 1/2 coil from springs
Car sits at 25.5" from ground to fender chrome on all 4 corners
Added-on all GT options. Gas cap, stripes, dash insert
The car was originally Fire-Thorn red with black standard interior.
Now is Acapulco Blue with Deluxe interior. Seats are done in the style of 1969 Shelby / Mach 1 with the comfort weave material.

Next on the list:
1) Rack & Pinion Steering
2) Front Struts Suspension
3) Rear Coil Over Suspension
4) Air Conditioning ( I live in Texas )

Hope this tells you a little. I'll be looking forward to visiting this forum again soon.

Guess I should introduce myself.

My name is Shane I am 31 (in 9 days). Married with 2 1/2 year old son (he thinks the mustang is his car)

I am new to the mustang world and have just bought a 69 Coupe 302 AT. Nothing special just all around decent project car. Has some body damage (was rear ended). Interior is OK seats are shot, door panel shot, and door windows don't work (took glass out today). But all that is after day one with my new toy we shall see what else will be needed soon.

Enjoy

Well she is not to bad I guess. Here is a link to Ebay where I bought her at. Found that the fill neck for the gas tank was snapped. Not sure how long ago it happend but pretty sure the gas is crap and that is probably why I am having a little trouble getting her started and staying running.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4533092013&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT

Checked all the fluids after I got it and everything was low and not even on the dipsticks. Added a quart of oil and AT fluid and waited for the puddles to begin. Only thing that leaked was the oil. Crawled under her and found that the drain plug was not tight...WOOHOOO easy fix.

Going to put some Power steering fluid in now. Coolant is a little low but not bad. Forgot to check break fluid so off to do that.

Supposedly there is a problem with the tranny but in my 2 block drive saw no problems...LOL..ya I know that doesn't count.

Thanx for the welcome

I do have under dash and trunk lights. Not sure about the mirrors though if you look closely you will see they do not match. Not sure if that is correct for the model year or not or if somebody added it aftwerwards.

BTW, I don't know how long the car was sitting but I would not try to use the exisiting gas at all, in fact changing out all your fluids would be a wise move.

Just joined, checked this site out before and thought it was pretty good. My name is John and I married my stang, wife owned it when we met, got a ride in it the night we met and fell in love with it almost as fast as I fell in love with her. We've been married almost 18 years with two kids and she just ordered a new 05 GT stang in January, should get it monday. Anyway, the 69 has been sitting for about eight years now , first in a carport, last seven in a garage. I told her I couldn't let her sell it because I always wanted to rebuild it someday. On the testdrive, while she was crusin' in the new one, I said I wanted to start working on the old one. She just smiled and said "help yourself". When I came home with a magazine with a mustang on the cover that was a dragracer with nitro tanks where the backseats should be she said "your not going to cut up the 69 that much are you?" I just smiled and said "don't worry honey, I'll put the nitro in the trunk!" Actually, no nitro, but I do plan on around 425 or 450 horse, and all the equipment to handle it. Figure I have several years in front of me before it's all done. I will post some pictures when I figure out how and before I start, should be plenty of fun.

Just to add a note about the car, 69 obviously, sportsroof, whimbeldon white outside, dark maroon red inside, 351w 4-bbl, FMX auto, 3.00 rearend. deluxe interior package with the woodgrain trim. My wife bought it when she turned 21, good choice, her grandpa had a 64 1/2 which he bought new and used to take her for rides in, thats when she started liking mustangs, my family was all chrysler and my first mustang was a 78 mustangII, okay, stop laughing, hey I mean it, get up off the floor and stop laughing, we are all entitled to one mistake in our life. anyway, I'm glad to see that there is a lot of experienced people here with knowledge on upgrading 69's.

Welcome to the site stangme! So you married her for her car huh? Isn't that how it goes nowadays just kind of a role reversial. Show some pics of the 2005 GT also. And the mustang II although ugly had a few good things about it which are used today on some resto-mods. Such as the rack and the front suspension. But it was no muscle car.... Sounds like you have some fun and yet trying times ahead of you. Just try to keep your head above water. If you need inspiration just cruise the various mustang sites and forums to keep your interest peeked.

the II's were actually very cool little cars and sporty too. definitely not a muscle car but fun nonetheless. i had a 78, it was a loaded 4 cyl coupe. had the deluxe interior, dual sport mirrors, power steering, power brakes and ac. also had a 3.55 geared trac-lok rear end, although it was the weenie little saginaw 6.5" rear. it was bright red inside and out. i miss that little car actually. of all the cars i've had and i've had a lot of them my favorites in order are

1: of course my 69 gt coupe it was/is also my first car
2:70 cougar
3 is a tie between the 78 II and my current DD 93 jeep cherokee

i give my opinion freely no need to ask, if i think you should know it, i'll sure let tell ya :D it really was a fun little car, i hear a lot of people knocking them and i used to do it myself, but then i bought mine because i needed wheels and was all i could afford. it actually turned out to be a really cool little car, i had planned on putting a 2.3 SVO turbo motor with a 5 spd in it, but it got totalled by a guy in a flatbed truck that ran a stop sign, he hit the car on the right front and after 2 360*s the car came to rest. the front bumper of my car was stuck in the bumper of the truck, and the left front end of the car was at a 45* angle to the rest of the car, the right front was at about 60* degrees to the rest of the car. the only thing holding the right front fender to the car was the radio antenna. the impact actually broke the engine block from the frame rails crushing it. the right motor mount went through the oil pan about 8 inches, but amazingly it happened so fast it basically sealed itself up, no leaks!!!!!!!!!!!!!. man that was bad day. then the truck driver actually had the balls to tell me that his boss was gonna pissed and he said " well, i guess i won't be driving the truck anymore" i almost cold cocked him and yelled " YEAH,WELL I KNOW I WON"T BE DRIVING MY CAR ANYMORE" what a dickhead this guy was. one of these days i'll build another one or would that be II? :D

Well i guess you told me! What did you expect, people are selfish and think of thereself first. Not everybody but i would say the majority of people do. Did his insurance cover it and what did you get after that? No injuries?

Oh hows your car coming along by the way?

bnickel
03-26-2005, 11:21 AM
yeah that was a long time ago. i got the 70 coug after that, his insurance paid off but i got screwed, i got $1750 for the car and injuries. yeah, i got whiplash real bad, which is probably the cause of my osteoarthritis. if you ever get in a wreck take my advice and gt a lawyer and get as much money out of the insurance company as you can.

i brought the stang home from the bodyshop monday, haven't had a chance to do anything to it yet though. hopefully i can get started putting it back together tomorrow, plus i have the next 2 weeks off from work so i should be able to get quite a bit done on it. i also have to clean out my garage so i can get the car in, which means most of my tools and stuff will have to go into the storage shed, since my garage is so small

Hi guys,

Just purchased a 69 Mach 1 today. Basically the same one I owned 23 years ago at age 18. 10x the cost of what it was in 1982.

351W-4v with a 4 spd toploader and a 9" rear. Still looking it over so I will know about the gear ratio soon. Was an FMX auto with a 3:1 conventional. It's now a posi - but need to read the docs some more to determine ratio - thinking 3.25?

Indian Red with white interior / black accents. pdb and ps....

Solid car with a little rust on the trunk floor and the drivers torque box needs replacement.

I'm sure to have more than a few questions - it's been awhile since I was under a hood

OK. here is the formal introduction.

I have loved mustangs since the first time I saw one in the parking lot of my high school (1980 something). I have tried over the years, but mustangs eluded me, for various reasons. I did have a 1969 Ford Galaxie 500 for a while (affectionately dubbed "the battlecruiser"), also a 1974 firebird v-8. Last year I finally decided that I had waited long enough for a mustang and bought a 2004 convertible. A great car, but not practical for a daily driver. What I really wanted was a CLASSIC mustang, but fully restored was out of reach, and I needed the reliability of a car for work. I wound up trading in the 2005 for a mazda sedan and started searching for a classic that I could buy to restore.

I found a 1967 that I looked at with a rebuilt engine, etc, but it had rust, dents, and rust ON the dents  . I don't mind mechanical work, but I don't have the skill in sheetmetal to do panel welding/cutting.

I found a 1969 coupe on e-bay from someone who lived about 70 miles from me, but it went to a high bidder. But even though the e-bay ad clearly said "sell to United States Only" the high bidder was in France and wanted the car shipped. The guy selling wasn't interested so he wrote me an e-mail and he drove the car down here. It has a lot of work to do, but there is no rust and only one patch of bondo. I wound up buying it for $3500 on April 4, 2005 and am looking for things to accomplish with the engine, exhaust, suspension, etc. This will not be a concourse resto, but a street car, because I am building it for ME, not for resale.

I am an Executive Sous Chef for a casino in the Coachella Valley, and I work mornings, leaving my afternoons fairly clear. It also helps that one of my friends works at an auto parts store and can help me get parts for it very quickly when I need them 8)

That's about all I have for now. I am sure to come up with questions as I go along. Thanks to STREETGRANDE69 for inviting me to this website/forum 8)

I’ve seemed to take on a different identity here.......I’m no longer streetgrande69......but rather trinitys("trinity’s dad" was too long). But anyway, congrats on the catch and you've come to the right place..................welcome aboard!!!

It looks like to me from the pics you gave that you have a fairly complete Grande there. At least the wood grain and console are still there. But anyway................shooting for a driver is a good goal, but I seriously like you attitude, build it for your taste.........not for what others like.

New to the site. I found it off of a link on Stangnet.

I have a 69Fastback, with a 426W. The car is in a bunch of pieces right now but I hope to have it back on the road by the end of June.

My next GIANT project is re-wiring the entire car with an EZ 21 fuse kit.
Once the snow melts here, I plan to get started.

Anyone do this and have any extra tips to get me going?

Thanks

Joe

Welcome to the site JC69stang. Sounds like we have a few things in common. My car is in pieces at the moment and i plan to install a EZ 21 Fuse kit also. Within the next month hopefully. It seems that everytime i give a deadline it ends up taking longer. I'll let you know how it goes and any problems we run into.

Sounds good. I have the kit ready and the old wires torn out, just need some sunshine to get going on the install.
Nice site by the way. I will try to document what I can and hopefully we can help each other get it done right the first time...

Don't bother buying the book How To Wire your Hotrod, it is a waste of $$$

Sounds great and thanks. My helpers so to speak are very confident that it will go without a hitch. In reality im their helper on this type thing Going to be a hefty task still though. Have A/C kit yet to purchase and get installed then wired. And my dakota digital gauges have to come in. Which also need wiring.

Yep most books like that really dont tell you what you actually need to know. Only books worth buying are the official 69 shop manuals.

Hi all... just checking in. Many of you may recognize me from my Stangnet posts. I visited a while back, but the forum sure has grown since then.

About me...

My name is Wyatt, I'm married to wonderfully supportive crazy woman, and I'm father to an equally crazy 10 month old boy.

My usual gig is being a doctoral student in music composition, specializing in computer music. Basically I make crazy sounds, put 'em in some contrived order, and call it music. I'm also a teaching "assistant", which means I teach undergraduate theory and musicianship, and other random crap upon occasion.

My current Mustang is also the first car I ever purchased/owned. It's a '70 Mach 1 I bought in '89 for $1200 and used as a daily driver until early 1995. When it started having more and more problems, I sadly set it aside when I started dating my wife. So the car sat and rusted in place for nearly 7 years until 2002, when we (my father and I) embarked on its current reincarnation. Check my site for details and pics: http://groups.msn.com/DBsMustang/

That's pretty much it...

Just an intro - Protowrxs
Stephen Nolen aka 'Protowrxs'

Occupation: I.T.
Hobbies: Chopper bicycles, Dirt Motorcycles, Stop Motion movies Stangs.
Car: 1969 Coupe - My first car back in 1974 when I was 15... yeah, I'm freaking old. An old school street racer and fun car currently torn down (currently means the last 10 years or so).

The car originally had a 351W 2bbl, FMX and was apparently baby blue. It was already orange when I got it and will be something similar in the end. The '69/70 Stangs are almost the only cars that look good in orange to me. I ran the car on the street for years with a 302, boss crank, HD rod, ported hipo 289 head setup with 12.5:1 pistons back when high octane was actually an option. It had a 5:43 rear gear and a C-6 tranny. Was good from 0 to 1/4 mile and that was about it but left me lots of good memories.

Getting serious about a rebuild with a front suspension rebuild, floor pan work, some 17 or 18 inch rims, and a re-worked '85 EFI motor out of an old F150 (I hope). The rear is in place with a 9" 4:11 so I'm thinking of an AOD of 5 speed so I can actually drive it this time. My biggest unknown is fitting larger rims on the car as the rims or my day were 14" and 15" - lol. The car isn't worth much to the world but lots of sentimental value to me.

Details here: http://www.protowrxs.com/nolen/Stang

Looks like there's lot of knowledge here to draw on.. :)

Welcome to the site Protowrxs and thezepplin8(didnt see your post earlier).

I've came across your website once or twice before, maybe before i even purchased my 69 coupe :) You can do 16", 17", and at most 18"s. Check out this tire and wheel chart: http://www.dodgestang.com/mustang.htm

Hope to hear more from you in the future.

my car used to look identical to yours except with a crappy blue paint job and 14" wheels instead of the 15" yours had but the same style. i had 14x6 et slots front and 14x9 fentons out back with 195/70-14 and L60-14 pro tracs out back. i had to put the long shackles and shock extenders on just to keep the tires from rubbing with the old worn out leaf springs. funny thing was with that with those wheels and tires, no front sway bar and a slightly warmed over 351w i could almost pull the right front wheel off the ground, it would definitely pull the suspension to the stops though. was pretty fun back then but it didn't handle for crap

Thanks for the welcome.
I hadn't thought about someone from here having run across my site. I must update that thing.. someday. :?

Actually those are 14 x 10's on the back with M50's and 15 x 4's up front.. weird eh. Can you believe those are the only rear tires I ever bought for that car? They are still on the car but hard as a rock. (I must admit I did go through a set of 8" cheater slicks though <wink>) The rear leaf springs are from a 70 Boss 302 that a friend of mine parted out. Yeah, handling wasn't considered.. just go straight.

It's nice seeing other '69 owners here, maybe I can get back 'into' the car again with my 9 year old son.

Hi, I'm Mattie. I finally got off of my butt and started going over my 69 Coupe. It's a Texas car, I got it with 28,000 miles. it doesn't look like it has that many miles though. It's got a 302, and I just found out while trying to get a tranny filter that it's not a C4, it's an FMX. It used to be a four speed car. It's got all the luxuries of home, four wheel manual drum brakes, and manual steering. It had AC, but I don't have anything hooked up.
I burnt the wiring harness five years ago while putting an ignition switch in with the battery connected. Okay, okay, stop laughing. Whatta ya want? I'm a computer guy, I thought I could show off and hot swap it in the parking lot of the parts store. Anyway, it's been sitting in my garage for five years. I've replaced the harness under the dash, and repaired the one under the hood. That wasn't easy. I had to get a pigtail for the firewall connector and then solder the wires back together. So I just got a bunch of goodies, but I'm trying to get the engine going first. I got a 600 cfm Edelbrock Performer carb w/ elec choke, and set it on top of an 85 GT manifold. I replaced the water pump, fuel pump, valve covers, thermostat housing, got a Pertronix coil and the elec ignition swap, and that about takes care of the replacements under the hood. I have a new 2 1/4" exhaust with an H-Pipe, and the Thrush Glasspacks. I got an entire suspension kit with the 1" lowering springs front and rear, upper and lower control arms, shocks, sway bars, some steering parts, it was a huge kit. I got the entire drum brake hardware kit, and a vacuum booster w/master cylinder. I think I'm gonna have to replace the starter, cuz I noticed underneath that a bolt is missing from the crossmember, and that dented it (anyone know what size bolt that is?). The only rust underneath is on the passenger side rear, where I noticed that I could see the carpet. Lots more happening, but that's the basics. Oh, bright red, satin black hood and trunk, sitting on 14" and 15" Centerlines. Pictures forthcoming. Mattie

Mattie, welcome to the site!! Sounds like your ready to rock on your mustang. One question, why all the trouble rebuilding all the suspension....doing the power booster, been there many times btw, and not swapping to a disc set-up out front? Drums are scary! I have a good long story on why my first Granada swap was at the age of 17.

One more thing, please fill out your profile info, location, occupation and such, it's nice to know who you’re talking to. I look forward to helping and watching your coupe take fold…..

Hi. I'm the proud new owner of a 69 coupe. I don't have pictures yet, but plan on posting some when I develop all this film.

Even though I have had awesome luck on eBay finding cars for the last couple years (I found an 87 gt 5.0 vert in excellent condition in Indiana for 2000$ in 2001 and a 95 5.0 gt coupe in Kansas for 2500$ 2002), my luck ran out in this one.

I've had to replace the rear tail light valance, both rear quarters, the entire trunk, and have been patching the fenderwells. The doors still need new skin and I have new front fenders ready to bolt on. All the hard work has been done, and I only have one more month to complete it...

I'm a 31 year old undergraduate student of philosophy. In another 3 years, I'll be teaching it at the university level. Why philosophy you ask? Well, i'm a veteran of the USN... and with nothing else to do but sit on the deck of the ship and stare at the stars all night... how could I not end up someone who thought to much for his own good?

In any event, you all seem like a great bunch of enthusiasts. I think i'll move in :)

Well, I just found this site the other day and thought I'd join in the fun.

As far as introductions go, here goes:

My name is Brian and I work as an electronics technician for a semi-conductor company in the green state of Oregon. I have owned a '69 Mach 1 since my high school days but haven't had the resources to do a restoration on it until recently. Plus I just inherited another project, a '67 coupe that I've started working on. This one is actually the girlfriend's
car that she hasn't decided if she is keeping or not, but it needs a little work.

Some details on my '69: It's a M-code car with a 4-spd and 3.25 rear. It's Indian fire with a white interior and is almost all original. I actually bought the car when I was 16 from a friend of my dad's. Back then I paid $1500 for it and I'm absolutly amazed at the current value of these cars, it sure makes me glad I hung onto it all these years. The poor thing has sat for a few years, but I'm headed home to grab it next week and start getting her cleaned up and back in shape.

I had been looking for some good online resources to aid me along the way, and that's when I found your site. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing knowledge with you guys.

Hey all!

My name is Paul, I just stumbled upon this site and think this is way cool! I am the owner of a 1969 Mustang Coupe, which I've owned for over 13 years. I restored it years ago, back when I was in High School and then drove it daily for about 5 years. When I moved from Pennsylvania to Michigan back in 2000, I left it in my 'rents garage. I have yet to go pick it up. :( Hopefully I'll make that treck shortly and I can get started on the second restoration.

So here she is circa 1996. Sorry for the blurry pics...couple a crappy photographer with a crappy scan job, and this is what you get!

Hi, my names Matt and im a senior in high school right now, its always been a dream of mine to have a classic Mustang, probably ever since I first saw one and didnt even know what it was yet. I finally got a '69 coupe a few weeks ago, heres a pic:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/spagin_41/PICT0002-2S.jpg

yeah i fail at photograhpy, ill probably get better pics soon when I take it out of the garage and work on it.

Its a pretty good solid car, especially the engine which has only about 85,000 original miles on it. The only major things wrong with it is that it needs the drivers side rear quarter panel (maybe both, meh) replaced becuase of rust, and it has a problem with the clutch. And the paint, but due to my current status as a poor student unfourtunately I probably wont be able to get it looking how I want it to for a while. But it works, and thats all I need it to do for now.

Was just surfing around for Mutsang sites when I found this, I thought it was awesome that there was a site just (well mostly i guess) about my car's year. This is the first classic Mustang ive worked on so try not to laugh at my dumb questions  I have a freind whose dad is a huge fox body fan and he had a bunch of them laying around his yard and me and my friend used to play around with them all the time. We were little middle schoolers back then, wed take apart an engine and put it back together and have parts left over  ahh, good times...

ive learned a lot since then though

Tell ya what, I'll give you your first assignment that is of no cost. You need to de-rice that poor girl ASAP! 8) I do not know what kind of JC Whitney rolled foil or what they put on those fender flairs and lower rocker but it's got to go!!!!!!! Get to scraping! 8)

thanks for the welcomes.

and yeah im definetly gonna get that crap off, somehow. its not even foil, they are plastic panels, the rocker panel and headlight ones are glued on with something, and the fender ones are riveted :x theres also one on the tail light panel which is glued on.

anyone have any suggestion about something i could use to get the glue off? i think the rivets are going to be even more of a pain :x

as for the engine, its a 250 straight six, which my mom likes... but I dont. It will have to do for now though, a few good things are its in really nice condition and it will save me a little on gas. Transmission is a 3 speed manual. im not sure about other options though.

ill be sure to get more pics once I get it out of the garage, which will probably be soon.

Protowrxs

i think the rivets are going to be even more of a pain

If they are pop rivets you should be able to use a 1/8" or so drill bit and drill out the head area of the rivet. The head will come off and you can remove the panels from there. I am assuming they are riveted to the fender lip?

Don't know about the glue.. I've used WD40 to get old sticker glue off many times but it depends on how it was done.

Edit: Oh yeah.. lot's of 'sixers' over here: http://fordsix.com

Welcome to the site! If it would have had a v8 she probably wouldnt have let you get it, thinking you'd kill yourself. Those chrome pieces are ugly but if they are riveted then there gonna leave some nice holes. They may be covering up something on purpose also. You might not want to see whats behind it. 8)

GreaseMonkey
10-16-2005, 10:27 PM
Thanks!

I actually got most of the chrome off the drivers side today, WD40 worked pretty good on the glue, got the chrome pieces off fine but it left a mess I still have to get off somehow.

I used a drill on the rivets and those came off fine as well, the holes are small and there arent very many of them, and they are on the inside of the fenders so they are hardly noticeable. so they arent to big of a problem at this point.

there wasnt anything under the panels that i didnt know about, exept a mess of whatever was used to hold them on. and more rear quarter panel rust, but i already know that needs to be replaced so that wasnt to big of a deal.

ill get more pics when I back it out of the garge to get the passengers side chrome off, which should be in a few days or maybe next weekend 8)

Nice... I didn't realize it was your first car as well. Congrates on still having it! I find very few that still have their first car and most joe publics are amazed we still have them. I got mine in '74... I have to make fun of my age though or it depresses me. ack

Yes, update us with some recent pics Slappy, that's a very nice looking Stang.

Oh boy oh boy, my turn. I`m Dave Fallet in sunny Florida. Married to a great woman who let me buy my dream car 6 months ago. I tried to post a pic, but it doesnt seem to take. I suppose I should mention she made me sell my 500 rwhp 92 drop top Gt before buying my 69 Mach. Best thing I ever did!! This is my 3 rd Mustang and most likely my last as I will be burried in this car.

Hello everyone, was surf'n the web tonight looking for info on replacing rear frame rails, rear crossmember and trunk drop-off's and happened upon your site.It looked like a great place to find info on the 69 Mustang so here I am.
A little info about myself:I am a Disabled Vet(USMC) attempting to restore a 69 Sportsroof Mustang. It started life as a stock 302 2V but, has been bored to a 306,with 69 351w heads,Crane Hyd. RV cam,Edelbrock Performer 289 intake,Edelbrock 1406 carb. and Edelbrock polished Valve covers.Stock C-4 tranny (atm it is in shop being beefed up) 9" Traction "Lok" differential 3.00 gear (atm) w/Lakewood traction bars. This is my first restoration project and I have to admit I had forgotten how much work it is to strip a car to the frame and start over but, I have had a blast doing it to this point.
I caught the Mustang bug back in 82 while attending high school.I started with a 67 Mustang GT and replaced the motor with a well built 351C 4v.I beefed up the front and rear suspension, installed frame connectors and dropped in a 4.11 gear.I drove the car for a few years back and forth to school and to the racetrack on weekends where I run a best time of 12.36 in the 1/4.After highschool I joined the Marine Corps and during that time I lost my storage on the car and had to sell it in a hurry.Needless to say I never got over losing that car.
Well 19 years of marriage and 2 sons later I have gotten the bug again(not that I ever lost it:).I had bought an 03 Mach1 and drove it for awhile but, It just seemed to be missing something. So, I sold the New Mach1 and started my search for an older one.I looked for some time at the fastback's and decided on buying a 69 Mach1.Well,after looking into the prices my wife and I decided that for the money we should probably start with a coupe and see how the restoration went on it before we shell'd out upwards of 10k on something that will more than likely need a full restoration as well.
So,here I am after a 1k mile round trip to Georgia and an initial investment of $1800 and 1 month into the restoration and looking for info on the sheetmetal aspect of the project.I will post some pictures of the original way I found the car and some updated pic's of where I am now in the tear-down.I look forward to conversing with you and hope to hear from you with any suggestions you may have in helping me to complete this project.Great to be here... I'm Jim.

Got my 1970 Mach 1 back in June from a guy in Chicago. I had to hide it from my parents for a little while because they think owning an old car like this is a irresponsible and a waste of money. I was in the process of moving out when I bought the car so within about a month of owning the car I was out on my own and got the car to my place.

The car is from California and is absolutely rust free. Was originally a 2bbl 351W that was converted to a 4bbl with an aluminum Edelbrock intake and carb. The PO rebuilt the engine with (very) high compression forged pistons, headers, and a few other goodies. Other than that it's completely stock. The engine and tranny had 50 miles on the rebuild. Tranny is a god-awful FMX. I hate autos! But it was new and is original to the car so I'm not complaining. The interior is all new except the steering wheel, sail panels, and carpet on the back of the fold-down rear seat. It's been repainted a bunch and is in need of paint soon as it's peeling in a few places, but the hood has nice and new fresh paint so the car looks great from the front. New tires, brakes, and exhaust rounded out the package.

The bad news is the car is (despite being a Mach 1) very low optioned. It's got hubcaps, 4 wheel drums, 3.00 open rear (but it is a 9"), auto, 2bbl car. So other than being a Mach it's not a very special car.

Good news is the deluxe interior is rather nice to have, although for the life of me I have no idea where I can put front speakers!

So there are some serious plans in the works for this car. This winter I'm swapping in a manual tranny, preferrably a T-56 but I don't think that'll happen due to the need to cut the tranny tunnel, so it'll probably get a TKO500. It's also getting 4 wheel discs from a 2000-04 Cobra. That'll need new wheels so I'm going to add 17X8 and 17X10 Raceline GT wheels with the knockoffs. Then a 3:50 posi rear end to complete the drivetrain upgrade. Come springtime I'm getting Global West tubular upper and lower control arms, doing the UCA relocation, and adding Mustang Plus 620 coils and 5 leaf rears. Probably going to go with Global West Del-A-Lum bushings in the back or I'm going to make a Watts Link. I'd like to make my own subframe connectors and monte carlo bar and export brace. I may go as far as making at least a hoop roll bar to add racing seats and 4point harnesses. The rear of the car may get some extra bracing between the upper shock mounts as well.

The engine could also use a nasty cam (something equivalent to an Z303) and it'll probably get a bigger DP carb, dual plane intake, bigger headers and exhaust. I'll get to that when I feel like it I guess.

I see the car getting a repaint next winter.

I drive the hell out of my car unlike some people, in the 5 months I've owned it it's already racked up over 3500 miles. No, it's not a daily driver. I'd like to autocross it next year when I can afford to and maybe eventually get it on an open track once a year. It's just too fun to open it up so I may as well do it on a road course.

This was my third pick of cars behind a 1973-1978 Ford Falcon (1) and a 1968 Firebird (2). I actually had one of the Falcons, a beautiful 1976 but the owner sold it out from under me (while I had a deposit on it) when I was arranging a truck to ship it.

I've been wanting a car since I was a kid and got turned onto the 1969/70 fastbacks back around 2000 or so. I didn't think I'd ever be able to afford a good one and after looking at cars for about 2 years and finding nothing but rustbuckets I finally found this car. I also like the 1971/73 fastbacks and would love to find one to build a targa roof removable hardtop cruiser out of some day.

Hi! Well i have an idea of what im building and i don't really have the funds to build it but im doing it. So what im doing is reto-modding a 1969 mustang coupe. Im making a custom body kit and will have a custom paint job. I alreay got the wheels but their a problem since im running 18x9 on all 4. Im also doing a suede interior and custom fiberglass console. All this by myself with a budget that is less than 0 because i maxed out my credit cards. I hope when it's finished i would get positive feedback on it and i think i will. I don't want to go into details because this type of mustang either has never been built this way or i have never seen it and will reveal it here when it's done.

ANY ONE IN THE SOCAL AREA I WOULD LIKE TO MEET UP AND TALK MUSTANGS!! MAYBE YOU CAN SEE MY PROGRESS...

hey

I thought maybe Id add a little to here. I already have a few posts hanging out there so here goes...

Im in pennsylvania actually the poconos on a big man made lake called lake wallenpaupack. Im 25 And work in IT.

Vehicles are my hobby. Ive had my 69 coupe for about 7 years been restoring it a little at a time when I could save up some money. My car I think is going to be black. I have blue seats. I think I am going with the 17" bullitt wheels. I am putting on a boss 429 hood scoop along with maier racing shelby scoops and ditching my chrome side mirror for the racing ones. My car currenty has the 250. But that is going too. I have a worked over 390 and a freshly rebuilt c6 that I am going to install untill I can get a toploader 4-speed.

My other toy is a 1974 toyota landcruiser FJ40 (looks like a Jeep wrangler, but alot stronger). Ive got a 4 inch suspension lift with a 3 inch shackle lift on it. It has 35x12.5x15 super swampers. With homemade bumpers and a swing out tire carrier (oh I do metal fab on the side). Its got lockers front and rear and upgraded birfields (like kingpins). It also has racing seats with 5pt harnesses and a winch and many more goodies.

So I think thats about it well all I feel like typing.

Oh cmon. Its not that bad. The thing is tough as hell. And the engine was designed by chevy. A toyota that was built in the 70's is much different than one today. Also the imports that drive me nuts are the honda civic's with the big wings (on a front wheel drive car I just dont get that) and the coffee can mufflers.

Hi to all. Another 69 Mach I from down under. Just took ownership of her in June, and am looking forward to learning more about her as I restore her.
Fell in love with Mustangs in my mid teens, '86,'87. Moved on specifically to '69 Fastbacks in the early '90s and have been searching for the right one since. In May I refinanced my house to do renovations and ended up with more than I expected. Found my '69 Mach I M code FMX Candyapple red, and couldn't let it go.
It's currently the wrong color with a 2V engine, but I have other plans.
Look forward to keeping in touch with you all.
I have included pics of the Mach, what she'll look like, and my two pocket rockets. Yes they are jap, but they're f%$&n fast.
PS Merry Xmas and safe holidays to all.

Hello all,

I just joined over at Stangnet and was invited here by Bnickel.

I bought my original candy apple red Mach 1 from a guy at a swap meet in Arlington, Texas in August of '93 for $1800. It was pretty rough.., no engine or tranny, most of the interior was gone, and the bottoms of the rear quarters were rusted out. But the engine bay was pretty solid, and so were the floor pans.

It was a base model 351W 2V, 3 speed manual, no AC, no PB, no options to speak of except it orignally came with a maroon interior instead of the more common black. When I picked it up I took it straight to the body shop along with my previous M code fastback, and told the shop to use anything they needed from the M code to fix the Mach. He cut the rear quarters off and grafted them onto the Mach 1. Outstanding job! It was absolutely gorgeous when I picked it up from the body shop.

I had just returned from working in Canada for 6 months where I had acquired the better part of a '69 428 SCJ (also Candy apple red) that was too rusted to restore. From that car I got a shaker hood and scoop, factory tach, clock panel, nodular 31 spline rear, front and rear spoilers, a complete interior (albeit black), fold down rear seat, console, and rear window louvers, all for $2000 Canadian (about $1600 US at the time).

I restored the interior to maroon, recovering the seats, dying a new black dash, installing a new headliner and carpet, and repainted the interior panels. I picked up a factory maroon manual console at Ford Carlisle.

I did a pretty straight forward restoration with a mild 351W with a Pony Carb Autolite 600, a T5, 1 5/8" coated headers, mild Crane cam, Twisted Wedge heads and Performer intake. Several trips to the drags and a couple of cross country trips from Washington DC to Dallas and back, and it still looked good! I used it as my daily driver for almost 2 years.

Then I did something incredibly stupid! I used it as my work truck while I built my house and tore it up! After sitting in the garage untouched for 4 years, I made a bet with a friend that I would have it on the road in 2 years.

I've lost the bet, but 3 years and the restomod bug later it now has a 408 stroker, big hyd roller cam, AFR 205 heads, port matched torker II intake, 1 3/4" ceramic coated headers, aluminum flywheel, centerforce clutch, tremec 5 speed with pro 5.0 shifter, nodular 31 spline 9" traction loc with new 3.7 gears, my own design coilover front suspension with double adjustable AFCO aluminum shocks, my own design R&P steering using the GM J-car rack, my own combination of brakes with 12.72x1.25 Wilwood front rotors on Wilwood aluminum hubs, Cadillac Seville rear calipers with Lincoln 11x.93" rotors, a Strange 1.125 master cylinder, and my own hydraulic clutch.

What's left before it tears up the road? The new aftermarket Proform/Quickfuel 750 carb runs way too rich. It's all new parts, but I piece mealed it together instead of buying a working one like a normal person would. It looks like the rear float isn't shutting off and gas just pours in. I'm planning on sending it to someone to set it up properly. Besides that, the front end needs to be aligned. There's a million cosmetic things it needs, and before I take it to the track, I'm putting adjustable shocks on the rear and adding a panhard bar, but I'll be driving it before I get to those things.

Whew! hope I didn't lose everyone...

The dash panels were originally the woodgrain Mach 1 panels. It's really just a big woodgrain looking sticker over steel panel. I removed the stickers and had the panels polished. I then had a clear coat sprayed over them so they won't rust.

The rim's are 18x7 up front and 18x8.5 in the rear. They are all custom offset and backspacing. The tires are Nitto 55's. The front are 225/40ZR18 and the back 255/45ZR18. The car has 5 leaf mid-eye leaf springs on the rear and lowering springs on the front. It has been lowered about a total of 3 inches in front and 1 1/2 in back.

My name is Melissa and I live in Sacramento, CA. I am 26 years old and purchased my mustang one year ago. It is a 1969 coupe with a lot of work to still be done. I am having a particularly hard time with this car because nothing on the engine is stock. I got the car with no engine in it, but it came with two engines, whichever I wanted to put in. The guy I bought it from used it as a daily driver and decided he wanted to strip it down and start a complete restoration. He didn't get very far when he had his first child and after that he never had the time.
So now it is in my possetion. I love this car and I haven't even driven it yet. I put in one of the engines (the more complete one of the two) and I am finding it is not origional to itself. It is a 1965 289 but had modifications. The major issue I am finding right now is that I can't find the appropriate combination of pulleys to use. I have the origional crank pulley (one groove), however I have no water pump pulley and I can't find one to match because it is not the origional water pump. It is a four bolt and to the best of one mechanics approximation, it is an early 70's model. Anyone know how to solve my problem? Is there a model number on the pump somewhere to give to the auto parts place and he can fit me with the right pulley?
I am learning every day I work on this car. I love old cars and have a particular infatuation with mustangs (I also have a 2000 coupe). I wish I could be more desriptive, but I know very little so patience is greatly appreciatedhttp://www.1969stang.com/mustang/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
Thanks!

Welcome Melissa! - Nice to see another '69 Coupe owner. Sounds like you have a challenge ahead but you're moving along on it.

289/302/351W pulleys can be a nightmare for sure as there seems to be hundreds of combinations from what I've seen. I bet there is someone here that came be some help. I haven't approached the pulley challenge yet. The last time I had the car running was a single groove setup as well.

If I run across any info I'll post it here or PM you.

Again, welcome to the forum!

Edit: Forgot to say post some pics of your car :)

Hello all. I have a 1969 sportsroof 302. Its actually NOT a Mach 1 go figure. I found it rotting away in West Virginia with a woman who thought it was a coupe. I've spent about 10 months restoring her. Ive done everything in my own home. There was no "sending it to the shop" . Now I think its time to get her ready for paint. Funny thing is she doesnt have much rust. The undercoating saved her. I named her Lola. I've been around cars my whole life. My father worked for ford for 20 some odd years. He hates fords with a passion. I love em with a passion. Anyway Lola has factory a/c but does not have power brakes or power steering which I found rather odd. I love her just the same. The only REAL woman in my life. :) I dont know if my husband approves :)

Welcome to the site and we are glad to have ya aboard. Your making me feel bad for sending mine to the shop :) Hopefully we can be of some assistance if your in need of help. Keep us updated on your progress.

Hi gang. My name is Mike and I own a 1969 restomod coupe. I am the 3rd owner of the car, which I purchased in August of 91. The car was a structurally sound rolling shell. The only metal work needed were new floors. So with that done, I was able to begin the transformation. To date, these are some of the mods I have completed.
9 inch rear,cust axels,n case pumpkin,Auburn diff
13 inch Willwood power brakes front and rear
stroked 351-dynoed at 440 RWHP on pump gas
neg wedge kit
koni shocks
mid eye leaf springs/ true 620 coils up front
fiber glass hood and valance
The list is longer but I'll stop there. I was kinda done with everything by 1994, but are you ever really done with these things? With that said, just finished a repaint project on the car, procar seats ect ect.. Glad to be part of the forum. I'll try to contribute as much as possible.

Hi, I've got a "S" code MACH 1 I am restoring, before I put the new dash pad in I need to correct a problem that has been driving me crazy!. I have no left rear turn signal, the front and hood scoop light work fine except when i hit the brake pedal both the front and scoop light stay on solid, when i release the brake the resume flashing again. The brake light works in the rear on both sides but not when the turn signal is used. IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT, I WANT TO DRIVE MY MACH 1 !!!

Hello!

They call me Truck. (My dad does, anyway!) I have a Ford Bronco that I will use to trailer around my 69 coupe which I bought as my 18th birthday present. (Not to be queenie-it's the only way I can think of driving both at once! My Coupe did not have the trailer towing option!)

I have lots of questions about pimping my ride- I'll be sure to tap your ears about everything that bugs me...which should be a lot.

I don't have my 999 reports on hand at the moment-but I've had some interesting finds. More on that later. Thanks for running a super site I look forward to seeing you all in cyberspace before I see you on the road.

Hello,

Let me introduce myself. My name is Didier Lahousse (aka Exxodus), i’m the proud owner of a 69 coupe 302. I bought it 3 years ago, it was a simple 302 2V, top-loader 4, 3.0:1 rear end, front disk brakes. It’s a DSO 90, so it didn’t saw any US road, even in 60ies. I’m the third owner and got 65000 miles.

First think a made on this car is make it run ;) In fact, carburetor had a venturi problem, also got some oil leak from headers. So I bought a edelbrock carburetor, performer manifold and a complete rebuild of water pump, radiator & accessories. Everything in primary electrical circuit was replaced, from battery, distributor (with addition of pertronix), coil, etc…

Then, a couple of month later, my fuel pump didn’t pump at all ;) So I put a holley (mechanical) fuel pump, replace the fuel tank and fuel lines.

Car was running … and running good !

Two years ago, i decide to install sequential led taillight, and replace all bushings & suspension on my car, and also put some ’03 Mach1 wheels on it. So rear leaf were replaced by eaton 5 leafs (- 1’), KYB shocks, MU (-1’) absorber, and go with all polyurethane bushing from front to end. I can’t believe that it was still my cars, after these modifications, the car is “stuck” on the road, woaw !

Then, time to brakes and rear end modifications, master cylinder was replaced, a new rear brake line was installed and a ford 9’’ (3.55:1) with disk brakes. I’ve also install a summit line lock, and tractions bars (cal-traks).

Now, the car is waiting for a complete replacement of trims and a paint job. It’s a Black Jade and will be metallic grey with Mach1 decoration.

Next year, a new crate engine (Ford Racing, Roush, …) will be build and interior renew.

I’m sure that I’ve forget some detail about me and my car, but … be sure that if I can help someone here, I’ll do.

What about me ?

Ok, I’m a Belgian, from Charleroi (it’s anout 50km from Brussels), I’ve got the same age than my car. Maried, no child.

Three years ago, I’ve started a French speaking internet forum for mustang enthusiasts that now have more than 1000 members from Europe (Belgium, France, Swiss, Spain) but also some Canadians. The forum is : http://www.mustangpassion.com (http://www.mustangpassion.com/)

I’m also the founder of two mustangs clubs in Europe (Belgium & France), called Mustang Passion.

I’m happy that a forum dedicated to the 69-70 mustangs is know created and you’ll sure, have some news from me on this web site ! Long live to most sexiest mustang ever ! ;)

Here goes. Just got my first Mustang, have had several Chevy classics. It's a 1969 Convertible, Winter blue, auto with a matching 302. I've always loved these cars, and this one is very straight and solid. One of the first things I'll do is have the engine pulled and detailed, as well as the compartment. Otherwise paint, top, interior, and mechanics are very good. Will be my weekend driver. It currently has power steering and manual brakes. I think a conversion to power disk brakes is in her future. I also ride a vintage restored Moto Guzzi Eldorado motorcycle. Looking forward to all the help on my future "improvements". Oh yea, I live in South Jersey (non toxic).
