Nice.. I was thinking of painting the headlight buckets and tailight panel on mine black also, everyone keeps talking me out of it , saying it will ruin the car being a mach1 , but my car is far from a show car so im thinking of doing it because thats what i like the blacked out look !!

hell my car is a GT and they never came with anything but maybe the hood blacked out, since you could technically get the hood blackout on anything if you knew what codes to order. i say do it if you want, it's your car and it's something that can easily be changed later

Looking good B!!!!!! 8) It gives me some inspiration to get going, unfortunately I have been riddled with family problems the last two weeks and it has delayed my plans a tad. This nice weather is killing me too.
BTW, on a side note, ya know the whole "GT holes cut out of the hood then taped up issue?" Well, when thumbing thru my Ford assembly manual the other day I found a diagram showing it that way with a side note calling out "*Note: cut out shaded area on all functional hoods." It's listed right below the hood scoop attachment notes. It's so weird how they took this 90% of the way then just taped it up and scraped it.
While we are on the subject, does the top of your aircleaner actually sit up into the hood?

thanks Pak, it's been a long time coming. my biggest problem now is trying to find a place to keep it, it won't fit in the damn garage!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm about 6 inches short of getting it in the garage, literally! i'm thinking about devising some kind of garage extension about 4 ft high that i can lower the garage door down onto and lock into place.
on the hood my air cleaner doesn't stick up any higher than normal for the most part, although i do have a 3" tall filter in it so i guess it's a little taller than stock but not enough to have any clearance issues. i'd love to have a copy of that part of the manual, if you could scan it and email it to me, i'd really appreciate it.

So is there just too much junk in the garage or is it actually shorter then the cars length?
Yeah sure, I'll try to bring the manual in tomorrow and scan it for you, the quality is not great to begin with but I'll do what I can. I am actually coming across a bunch of odd things that I have never heard before so I'm starting a new thread on it.
BTW, who did you end up getting your shelby glass from and how was the quality?

well right now there is too much junk in the garage, but even if i had no junk in there the car still wouldn't fit. the house is very old and wasn't setup originally for a washer/dryer so they added the plumbing in the garage, which is where the problem comes in. with the washer/dryer in there i lack about 4-5 inches of being able to get the car in and close the garage door. i think i figured out a solution for that though, i'm gonna build a 3 sided box as sort of a garage extension. it will be as wide as the garage, 8 ft i think, and 4 ft high by 4 ft deep and will house the tail end of the car then i will lock it in place using the garage door rail and pull the garage door down on top of that and lock it in place as well. it will have casters on the bottom so i can just roll it out of the way when i want to pull the car out. kind of backwards ass redneck way to do it, i know, but hey if it works.
i got the shelby glass from NPD, i wasn't extremely impressed with it but it worked out ok, i had to open the holes up for the grills myself and that was a pain in the ass. i had wanted to get the parts from MU but they were on backorder for an extreme amount of time. after i'd had them for about a month i found out that maier has them and they come with the holes for the grilles pre-cut and the quality of the glass looks spectacular. i would recommend them for side scoops at least, i think MU may still have the best decklid though.

Hmmm, OK, thanks. I'm thinking I still want to try the Branda stuff. That reminds me though, I have to contact Comp Cams and find out what they used. i keep forgetting to do that. I had thought I heard that Maier was junk, maybe i am mixed up though. The one I know for sure to avoid is that UP22 stuff.

i think the maier stuff is mostly junk, but the side scoops look pretty good from what i can tell at least

Different looking wheel choice. I dont recognize them offhand bnickel what are they?

they are a brand called Riken, unfortunately they went out of business a few years ago so if i mess one of them i'm screwed. they are similar to the old BBS style wheels that were popular back in the early 90's. since i'm building the car to be sort of a retro early pro-touring car they fit with the style fine, and since i've had them for a long time it'll save me some money to use them instead of changing them out. that is actually my favorite style of wheel, don't know why really, i guess they are just so euro looking or something. originally i was going to paint the car charcoal gray with all the chrome trim blacked out and these wheels painted black, but i decided a long time ago that i would make it more stock looking with a few extras

Speaking of blacking out the chrome, because I will be going with a bluish gray color I was thinking of how it would look with black chrome instead. Has anyone ever seen a Stang or any car for that matter with black chrome? I've seen just black and obviously just chrome too. I'm curious if it would be too much or too cool? 8)

i hear black chrome is quite expensive to have done. i bet it would look sharp, but i can't say if it would be too out there or too cool as i don't think i have ever seen the trim on a car done with it

Any examples of cars done in black chrome?

you can't do a car completely in black chrome. omly the rigid stuff, front /rear bumpers, and chrome mirrors and handles, marker lights. the rest is actualy stainless or aluminum.....i don't think it would be practiacl to chrome these items. hood/trunk trim, windshield trim, ect.

Yeh the trim is what i had wanted to see

Hunh, bummer, I was really getting excited about this idea over the weekend, As I was stripping my car I was trying to imagine how it would all look in Black Chrome and it was seeming pretty frickin hot.
So in the interest of further discussion on the parts that are a problem, powder coating can have a certain translucency can't it? So I wonder if you thru some balck poder on top of chrome, would it stick and end up looking a tad like Black chrome? Would the stianless and aluminum be an issue?

Well, I just took a few minutes to try and come up with some pics of a car with all black chrome and turned up nothing.
I did however come across this east coast site that seems to have a different opinion than Trinity's as to what can and can't be done in Black Chrome.

the stainless trim can be chromed no problem, but the aluminum stuff might be more difficult, i bet it can be done though

See the last bullett point:
Aluminum and Magnesium and their alloys can be plated with Black Chrome after they have been given the appropriate zincate treatment or plated with white brass.

So it can be done. But it will cost ya, looks like.

BTW, for anyone intersted I did send an email to Comp Cams and got the following answer:
Richard,
I believe the deck lid was purchased from National Parts Depot. The fender extensions were fabricated onto the original style quarter panel. It was intended to look somewhat like the shelby style rearend. If you have anymore questions feel free to call me at *****************.
Thanks,
John Williams
I have no choice but to believe him, but I can not even grasp how they made the end cap extensions from scratch!!!!!!! I guess I'll shop around some but I'm still thinking the best bet is to shell out the extra for the Branda stuff.
