View Full Version : Sanding down the paint
Well, I finally got tired of looking at a multiple colored car so im taking the first steps of preparing it for a coat of primer. As you can see ive taken it down to bare metal and now I have to remove the hood scoop so I can sandblast it and get the rest of the paint under it. I was able to remove some surface rust but there is some thats still on there so I was going to go with some rust eating primer. Ill keep you guys updated on my progress.

Here is what the hood looks like with the rust red primer. I wasnt able to remove all the paint from the hood scoop because the sanding was starting to take of the plastic and I didnt want to hurt it so I just scraped what I could off with a razor blade and painted over it.

looking good GT. Plan on painting it yourself or having a shop do it?
Well, if I have the money to get it done at a shop I will or if I graduate and still havent gotten it painted, I may take a class at the local community college on painting and do it myself.

Taking it done to the bare metal is the way to go.
So what is taking you to do the rest of the Mustang?
Well, I kind of decided to stop. I did the top of both front fenders, and the side of the left fender. I also did the roof because it was looking pretty bad. I was just kind of aiming to get the places that need it pretty bad, I might do the trunk cause its looking pretty bad also but im not sure cause then it will look like one big red solid racing stripe or something  But heres what it looks like now, cant see the roof that well because of the light.

Edit: Also when I was sanding the left fender I found a bunch of cracked bondo. :( Same thing on the roof on the right side. I also found out that behind the quarter window on the right side of the car where the emblem is supposted to be (gone on mine) is competley rusted through :( Looks like I have my work cut out for me.

Yeh the majority of our cars have bondo on them somewhere. Looking good though!
