Heres a lesson in eBay car buying for you.
This summer I wrecked my 95 mustang and decided it was a sign to get back to my roots. I found a turn key 69 coupe in upstate NY, about 1/2 hour from niagra falls, on eBay. The pictures he provided showed a fairly solid car... but gentlemen, pictures can be decieving. The amount of bondo in this car was staggering! There was 1/2 inch (closer to two thirds of an inch!!) of bondo on the lower driver side door alone. But that wasn't the bad part. All the upper interior trim had been taken out, and lost... because at one point, someone tried chopping the car on this coupe, thought better of it, and did a hack job of welding the top back on.
Now, I was fairly fuming at this point. It was about a 16 to 17 hour trip from my house to this guy, and with gas prices the way they are (plus, I needed to trailer the car), I didn't want to walk away with a 500$ transportation loss and no car to show for it. So, I managed to talk the guy down a bit and leave with my dignity intact.
Finding upper interior trim, however, has been a hassle. I've found some misc junk yards that have the parts I need, but the prices they want are astronomical. I don't mind paying what something is worth... but 100$ per pillar trim? Like you all, i'd prefer to restore my mustang without grabbing my ankles for the experience.
So, if anyone has some extra upper interior trim for a 69 coupe laying about and would like to get rid of, in a parts car, or left over from a restoration, let me know.
You can email me at RabidPhilosopher@aol.com, or i'll check back here for posts.
thanks!
