NICE! Angel hope you picked up a de-crimper tool for the door skin, it just makes the job so much easier. That or grind down the side of the crimps and split the metal with a hammer and chisel. (i did a mix of both processes, where i couldnt grab enough metal to use the de-crimper)Also good luck with the spot welds on the inner part of the door frame. Alot of hammer and chisel on those babies.

sanding the Hood i picked up for $20 and then primered the hood with sandable black primer.
Then mounted the hood hinges and springs from CJ pony parts along with the hood to make sure the hinges worked.
Pakrat
06-24-2010, 09:24 AM
Does CJ actually ship those hinges finished in Black? I would have expected it in the correct natural finish.
Daves69Coupe
06-24-2010, 10:10 AM
thats the way they ship them. Pretty nice finish i think.
69RavenConv
06-24-2010, 10:50 AM
You could always hit them with some Spray Gray to get the OEM look if it matters to you.
Daves69Coupe
06-24-2010, 12:07 PM
if i were to paint them it would be gray, I dont know yet, i was thinking possibly doing Ford blue, but itll most likely stay black
BuckeyeDemon
06-24-2010, 09:32 PM
open and close your hood a few times and the paint on the hinges will probably start rubbing off making them not look so nice...
Daves69Coupe
06-25-2010, 06:19 AM
opened and closed it 5-7 times already and hasnt happened yet but if it does no biggy. There not hard to take on and off and just paint.
Pakrat
06-25-2010, 08:39 AM
Mine were original still but looked horrible. I redid them in that natural cast gray paint and they look amazing and just as good as if they were done in the real phosphate and oil process. I've had none come off either but I prepped them real good too.
Nothing wrong with black, I was just curious if they came that way or you repainted them, I am surprised that CJ sells them as a replacement but in the wrong color.
BuckeyeDemon
06-25-2010, 10:16 AM
i guess i'm unlucky. the coating has rubbed off around the pivot locations during the process of panel fit up. (doesn't matter to me anyways because i will be removing the paint anyways).
i think the black that comes on the aftermarket hinges is just the standard e-coat.
Daves69Coupe
06-25-2010, 11:59 AM
It probaly is E-coat either way Ill have the hinges off again so I may paint them then

lookin good. Quick question, your hood does still shut right? It looks like the radiator sits about 2 inches above the radiator support. I can't recall how much room was in there :whistling:
The paw prints crawling into the trunk almost look more like raccoon than kitty prints LOL
Daves69Coupe

and yes something was definently walking around in there lol.

Looks good, you are making progress. Finally my wife & I got into a house with a garage so I started tearing into my 69 Coupe. Stripped off all the old paint found some rotted metal around both rear wheel wells & some old damage to the l/s rear quater just under the l/s rear quater window. Started cutting out the rot to get ready to weld in patch pieces.

70mstang
08-12-2010, 07:02 AM
Good work! I know I hate those external spring compressors! It makes it so much harder to put on springs. The first time I was working on mine, I borrowed a set of those from a neighbor. Then I saw Eastwood had a sale on the internal that you can shove down through the shock tower and life got much easier after that.

So i havent had much time to work on the car the past 2months bc of work and freezing weather in Jersey. But i figured id post pics of my window frame repair.
A local restoration fixed the hole for me for $180. Think it came out pretty damn good.
Now that the holes fixed the windshield can go back in and interior work can begin.

03-18-2011, 08:29 AM
So I got the stang out of the garage last weekend after spending the past 3 months stowed away where I couldnt work on it. Damn jersey weather.
Anyways I took a few pics of the car with the new wheels on. There 17x9 front a back with a 1" spacer front and back. Lots of tire out the rear wheel well. Close to rubbing on the front fender too. I dont think it'll be a problem unless I lower the car more anyways. Either way I'll probaly end up rolling the fenders or flaring them. So heres a few pics of the car with wheels. (lot of gap between tires and fenders cause cars leaning on drivers side do to uneven driveway. Will post more pics after this weekend.

So is it not an option to use less spacer, will it be hitting on the inside then? I guess flares will cover them but it would be nice if you could get away with just tucking them in more.
Daves69Coupe
03-18-2011, 09:54 AM
Smaller spacers are definently an option. I dont need them in the rear if I get rid of the bump stops. The wheels hit the tab that comes off them without a spacer on.
Angel
03-18-2011, 01:01 PM
Cut that tab off and remove the spacer in the rear. The front is another story...They look good though.

new oil pan is in. Was a real pain to do with the engine in the car. Had to remove the enigne cross member, sway bar, and slave cylinder for power steering to get old pan out and new one in. The biggest pain was keeping the gasket on during install. I used some some red tacky stuff to adhere the gasket to pan but it still moved around if it touched anything under the engine. Should of done it when I had the engine on the stand months ago but whatev new ones in and done.

been a couple weeks since my last update, so here it goes.
Ive been working on a lot of wiring to figure out what was missing from my harness, where everything hooks up, what the PO wire wrong?
So I was missing the engine temp, oil temp and coil harness as well as sensors (ordered), driver side light harness (ordered and installed).
The PO also had the ignition switch wired wrong so I had to remove it and re-wire it. Just gotta get a couple circle electrical connectors that fit the ignition switch.
Installed my 69" serpentine belt, powers steering lines, headlights and radiator hose. I was also missing the heater hose fitting for the manifold, so once that comes in Ill hook up everything to the waterpump and manifold and give it a go at starting.

been making slow progrss on the car lastely do to the fact the car and I are in 2 different places. I moved to a new place a couple months ago but havent brought the car over yet. The plan was to drive the car over but I havent gotten the car to fire yet from the ignition switch. So i have some elec gremlins to figure out.
i have been able to do the front brakes and mounted the side mirror. Car looks so wierd with a mirror after not having them on for 2 years.
I also bought new grill trim during Cjponys 20% off sale. I got new Hood trim also. Cars going to be going into shop soon to have the bosy finished up, then to its new 2 car garage where i currently live.
