Hello all, looking for 351 build help.

I stumbled upon this site while looking for info on building a 351. I was hoping someone in here might help me instead of discourage me. I have this idea to build a nice solid dependable 351 that will put down between 350-400 hp/tq at the flywheel. This is pretty easy to do with all the aftermarket performance parts out there but here's the rub. I want to do it with stock heads, rods and probably crank.
I belong to a couple forums where there are alot of guys who have big money. They buy whatever they need for hp but never work for any of it. They tell me to stop being cheap or stop wasting my time. Buy this head or that kit, BLAH BLAH BLAH. They have to have 5,6,700 HP and most are probably afraid to drive their cars. They don't understand I'd rather have a car that is not overpowered and is a solid driver that can go all day long without overheating.
So if any of you guys know anything about building a 351 that will do what I want please give me some advice. Here's what I have so far. A D4 351 Block, D5AE heads that I'd like some info on porting, a stock crank and rods, performer intake, pertronix billet distributor, new eddy waterpump and comp double roller timing set. I also have a cast 3.85 crank, possible 393? What cam and pistons would work good with what I have in mind? Carb? Thanks in advance I hope someone here can give me some ideas.

Ok i just stripped and cleaned my steering box, and found that its in pretty good shape, but needs a complete rebuild LOL....Amyhow my question is this....I went to remove the Rag Joint and unbolted the two little bolts and there were two stud looking things in there also, so i tried to unscrew them and twisted them both off only to find i guess that they dont screw on LOL OK i get it so how the hell do you get a new rag joint on there if those things dont unscrew?
So where can i get new rag joint studs and if i cant find any, where is the best place to get a whole unit? Should i go with a standard unit, or a poly unit?
....But i did start inmstalling my CSRP Granada front disc brake kit :P

I am getting sick of gas dumping all over the back of the tail panel/bumper, every time i fill up. I probably wasted 2 dollars in gas as it gurgled out 2 times before it actually filled the tank! (I'm also worried about it damaging the paint/chrome).

Is there a trick to filling these cars or does this just happen to everyone?

I'm having difficulty installing the clutch fork and I have a couple questions. This is a 351W with a 4 speed toploader.

1- How does the clutch fork attach to the bell housing? As far as I can tell there is a clip on the back of the fork that fastens to the "Fulcrum" (Metal tab) which is attached to the bell housing. Is there any thing else that holds the fork in place?

2- My bell housing appears to be from a 3 speed and there isn't a hole in the fulcrum that will accept the clip on the back of the clutch fork. I have ordered a new fulcrum from NPD, am I on the right track? Is this a direct replacement?

Thanks

I have the timing set at 12 at idle with the vacuum plugged. When I rev it though, it looks like it only goes up to 22 or so. Shouldnt be around 32? Also, checked vacuum and only have 15 when I had 19 before. When I start it, it alsolooks like it turns over slow for a couple cranks and then turns over faster, could that be timing?
